Peel Away
When I was a boy I lived on a city street with other boys just like me
young and unaware of the differences of each other’s childhood dreams.
When the fence hit his face the ball rolled into the goal without mercy
Yeah the game ended then but he carries the scar above his left eye to this day.
Lost memories are only a moment away Peel away, peel away, peel away, peel away
Halloween came and I pretended to be ill
Big kids ruled the sidewalks when the streetlights came on Shaving cream and eggs were the weapons of choice
No one was safe from the roaming bands of course
I saw him try to run but his sister ran him down Tough love was the way in that town
She laughed so loud as he was pinned to the ground The moment sure gathered a crowd
Lost memories are only a moment away Peel away, peel away, peel away, peel away Peel away, the layers of time, peel away
Seven years turned on North Shore Chicago I went to visit my childhood friend
They grew up fast in the md 90’s
Being swayed by a great lake’s breeze
I remember watching as they packed their car He was moving to the gulf it seemed so far
He said good-‐bye to all he knew
And a girl that did what no one else would do
Lost memories are only a moment away Peel away peel away, peel away peel away Peel away the layers of time,
Buried deep in your mind, peel away
peel away, peel away Peel away, peel away Peel away, peel away

when I was still a bachelor
who no-one counted on
it was nearly 1970 and I
couldn't wait for those 60's to be gone
I had taken a job with an upstart shop
selling valves and coupling parts
to the power plants from Cowens Ford
to Rocky Creek, seemed like a real good start
cold calls at them hydro stations
made me feel a cog
I could see right through myself back then
driving through that Wylie fog
and all my schemes and prayers
nothing but a trial balloon
and my dreaming of you seemed as crazy then
as standing in the shine of the moon
and on a Sunday afternoon
the bossman had us round
with a TV in the backyard
all them coolers on the ground
I don't know what he had in mind
some sales-call pep-talk thing
and I wanted to be anywhere but here
I was thinking about wedding rings
and some snot-nosed kid ran round that yard
with the future in his hands
and I want to shake him up and say
there ain't no promised land
but what do I know?
and all my schemes and prayers
nothing but a trial balloon
and my dreaming of you seemed as crazy then
as standing in the shine of the moon
and through the grain and fuzzy lines
there wasn't much to see
and it was one small step, an unreal flag
and that kid was looking right through me
and the TV man was talking about
the man in orbit, waiting
said his name was Michael Collins
up alone, silent, no complaining
that poor man, he got so close
he could almost reach his hand
they sent him to the outer gates
but they wouldn't let him in the promised land
and all my schemes and prayers
nothing but a trial balloon
and my dreaming of you seemed as crazy then
as standing in the shine of the moon
now these years have passed me by
and it don't mean so much no more
I started out a cog
I ain't so different than before
I think about that kid
and wonder what he took to heart
the dream fulfilled, or acknowledged
pain of another's precious part
did he keep an eye on Buzz and Neil
did he ever find his way
did he wait in orbit, patiently
someone else's role to play
and all my schemes and prayers
nothing but a trial balloon
and my dreaming of you seemed as crazy then
as standing in the shine of the moon

v1
Couldn’t be much more than 5, just a few feet off the ground
Eyes are bright and shiny blue
Must not be from around here, but there’s something him
Looks like me, looks like you
All the people saying that it’s all gone to hell
I just want to run to what’s right...
chorus
Through a boy’s eyes, Seeing the world tonight
Through a boy’s eyes, I can see paradise
Through a boy’s eyes, Seeing things a different light
Through a boys eyes, I know we’re alright
v2
Look how fast the time goes by, that boy is all grown up
He’s a father now I hear
Visits are harder than ever, but I still remember
We keep in touch, and I’m so proud of him
mid 8
Sometimes it's hard to believe, I have a son of my own
I hope one day he can visit the place where my fathers from, with a son of his own

Where A Hero Is Made
Little boy, in thick souled shoes
Talent day at the elementary school
Raised his hand , said he’d like to show something special that he can do
He walked up on that stage
He started stompin’ on the floor
With a big smile on his face
He was Tap dancing in a talent show
Looked like he was lettin’ it go
To be the shinin’ star, in all of third grade
He had no fear wasn’t scared at all
For three or four minutes he just gave it his all
Like Superman, Savin’ Ms. Lane
A Dream is where a hero is made
Got a call on the radio
Disturbin’ the peace, I was the one to go
As I closed in, I could hear it from a mile away
Little boy fifteen years young
Playin’ his guitar out in the sun
Amp on ten and smile on his face
I told him that it sounded good
But to take it inside you can’t play it for the neighborhood
He’s tap dancin’ in a talent show
Playin’ his guitar and just lettin’ it go
To be the big star on the neighborhood stage
Singin’ songs and playin guitar
You know he knew that it would take him real far
Like Superman, savin’ Ms. Lane
A Dream is where a hero is made
SOLO (absent)
He only wanted one thing
He had to be on the stage
He was Tap dancin’ in a talent show
Playin’ his guitar and just lettin’ it go
To be the big star, born with a dream
Singin’ songs and playin guitar
You know he knew that it would take him real far
Like Superman, savin’ Ms. Lane
A Dream is where a hero is made

I see you standing up so high
There's one thing I just don't understand
You say that you have learned to fly
Stand tall, back against the wall
What could happen, who could say?
To & fro, you should know
The floor is such a long way -- down
You might trip
Your heart might skip
Hold tight, make it through the night
Laying down might be wise
Lay it down, stop moving around
I just wanna see your eyes -- closed
You might fall
Now I've seen it all
I see you standing up so high
There's one thing I just don't understand
You say that you have learned to fly
Brother, I think you better learn how to land
You're prepared to take flight
Setting sail into the night
Stand tall, back against the wall
What could happen, who could say?
I see you standing up so high
There's one thing I just don't understand
You say that you have learned to fly
Brother, I think you better learn how to land

ain in my Veins
Another song begins and I’m reminded of you
The mood of the music sounds like you used to
Every beat played may as well be your footsteps
Even the heartbeat doesn’t let me forget
I hear your soundtrack and I taste your kiss
You’re the train in my veins that I can’t resist
I hear the disco in the wind when you step into the night
The air smells like fragrance from a forgotten time
You are the first on the list of the all time favorite songs
And the look in your eye is the world’s best written line
I hear your soundtrack and I taste your kiss
You’re the train in my veins that I can’t resist
So I sing to remember
And I sleep not to feel
I sing to remember
And I sleep not to feel
I wonder what your song will sound like when you’re older
A flock of flamingos Or a string lullaby
Will you let me hear you when we are apart or together?
Will you let me hear you tonight and forever?
I hear your soundtrack and I taste your kiss
You’re the train in my veins
I hear your soundtrack and I taste your kiss
You’re the train in my veins that I can’t resist
I can’t resist
No I can’t resist
No I can’t resist
