I am a bug A creepy crawly thing Come pull off my wing Watch me squirm Tiny homes for tiny bugs Move the dirt, sweep the rug Nobody cares about you I am a tree I am in the way Cut my flesh away Cut me down My roots run deep My branches spread and creep Nobody cares about you Nobody cares about you No matter what you do Nobody cares about you

Rain comes down, on the city of New York Wash away, another happy day Puddles glisten, no one listens Drink my self and the night away Never too late, for delivery riders Should be too much for a baby cry Put up your umbrella, head in to Showmans Or stop and pick up movies 2 for 5 I’m not bitter, I’m not happy Stuck in a moment, but I still won’t try I’m not looking to save the world I’m just watching it all go by As I’m winding down, I see others starting The vampires, cabbies and deli guys On 125, the lights are amazing As the cars go on constantly zooming by - zooming by I’m not bitter, I’m not happy Stuck in a moment, but I still won’t try I’m not looking to save the world I’m just watching it all go by Feel the weight of the world Staring at my new MBP One tab open to NY Times Others working on MM3am

Well I'm just a rock Look what I've done Nowhere to turn to Nowhere to run Cause I ain't got legs To take me around I'll just have to take my place Here on the ground Well I wish someone would pick me up and throw me To the other side Where the grass is greener And I know, at least I tried I ain't got a lot Nothing that shines I appear to be hardened On the outside In water I sink In the air I will fall Do you even see me Or am I here at all Well I wish someone would pick me up and throw me To the other side Where the grass is greener And I know, at least I tried Now a glimmer of hope You're coming my way This is what I've been waiting for But you step on me Oh how cliche Well I wish someone would pick me up and throw me To the other side Where the grass is greener And I know, at least I tried

I heard your voice on The radio You're saying everything but What I need to know I see the motion The shadows dance These ghosts in green are Gonna put me in a trance These signs and symbols This red and blue They speak some language that I Wish I never knew They're flashing, fading Some kind of code A circuit closing up and Down this open road And all this talk is so cheap I see those taillights fade Outside my window pane I wonder where you've gotta go tonight I watch the world outside I catch my breath and hide Nothing but heartbreak at the speed of light Up in my room here Can't hear you shout These walls of brick keep all the World's noise out Ain't misbehaving I play it clean I'm watching, waiting For a sympathetic scene This broken language Don't make no sense The dots and dashes through the Slats of picket fence I need you by me To say my name This sweet confusion leaves me Swimming in my shame And all this talk is so cheap I see those taillights fade Outside my window pane I wonder where you've gotta go tonight I watch the world outside I catch my breath and hide Nothing but heartbreak at the speed of light

Rusted Fence You can't hold nothing in no more You're gates are hard to open Rusted Fence I think You would soon be falling down If I hadn't strapped you back together Your eyes have seen so much Over the years of holding on so strong But I feel that we should throw you out You've had enough Its time to sleep You held your ground You've earned your keep But I feel that we should throw you out. Rusted Fence You have holes all over you Where weeds are crawling through Rusted Fence Your chains are falling your posts are bent I think its time to go Your eyes have seen so much Over the years of holding on so strong But I feel that we should throw you out You've had enough Its time to sleep You held your ground You've earned your keep But I feel that we should throw you out. I have never done as much as you You built barriers but now you're through your broken down And we should throw you Thank you

“Catch My Breath” 80 times around the sun  Cousins sprouted one by one My babies never made it  Lost to the shadows or the blades Bugs and snakes all over me Roots kissed by Asphalt and debris Freezing cold and burning rays Outstretched arms to take the pain I can't, I can't catch my breath On my way to certain death Lightening strikes and valley winds  Enemies I accept as friends  Bring the life I need to breathe Spare me your sympathy  But you, slow, steady strangler encroaching every facet like a scorned lover's anger Take and take like vampire vines  Suffocate my precious time I can't, I can't catch my breath On my way to certain death

about

This assignment this week comes from Mitchell:

"Look out the window. If you are not in a room that has a window, go into one that does and look out it. Write a song about something you see out there. No style or genre requirements, BUT your song can NOT be lighthearted, optimistic, peppy, light, feel good, or political. You can chose a person you see, but try not to - instead, think about twig or a speck of dust or something.”
