my new idol
©clay howard   VERSE1 I've got to put it down
 its pulling me away
I need to hit the ground
but it always makes me stay
 I hope you understand
 I wasn't always just a slave
 I'm now a lesser man
cause it has got me in its sway   Chorus it's number one with a bullet
and that bullet has wiped away
 the thing that's most important
my new idol has got its way it's wiping me away   Verse 2 It was a simple thing
just to pass the time away
 and then it got ahold
to let it go makes me afraid

 I hope you understand
 I wasn't always just a slave
 I'm now a lesser man
cause it has got me in its sway   Chorus it's number one with a bullet
and that bullet has wiped away
 the thing that's most important
my new idol has got its way it's wiping me away   Other Part... I look up to the sky
 wish with all my life
 that I had never tried
to fill this empty side.... Repeat 1s verse and chorus

Day Of Rest Sunday Ever since I was a very young man I learned to work just as hard as I can ‘Cause nothin’ comes easy when you’re tryin’ hard to make ends meet One thing my Daddy said to never forget To live right you gotta take a day of rest So I live by number four, I’m a happy man week after week (That’s why it’s) Monday, I’m just getting’ started Tuesday comes around I try to work a little harder Wendesday means I’m getting’ there just comin’ over the hill Thursday, Things are looking better Friday night date so I head out to go and get her Saturday I play hard, party hard and stay out late Day of rest Sunday I knew a man he’d never stop to breathe He’d keep on goin’ like you wouldn’t believe And his family hardly saw him, on the run day after day I’d never wanna miss out on that much Life’s too short you gotta stay in touch With the things that really matter and don’t let it all slip away (That’s why it’s) Monday, I’m just getting’ started Tuesday comes around I try to work a little harder Wendesday means I’m getting’ there just comin’ over the hill Thursday, Things are looking better Friday night date so I head out to go and get her Saturday I play hard, party hard and stay out late Day of rest Sunday SOLO (That’s why it’s) Monday, I’m just getting’ started Tuesday comes around I try to work a little harder Wendesday means I’m getting’ there just comin’ over the hill Thursday, Things are looking better Friday night date so I head out to go and get her Saturday I play hard, party hard and stay out late Day of rest Sunday

Well she says meet me in the ally way Cause I’m tired of the spotlight The air is just a little thinner here than it was back out on Trade Street And the water that runs over me can only make me cleaner While the dirt that rushes off of me is really just a memory We’ve all been aided, and elated Desecrated, and Degraded While the public eye that watches us Will only be dilated As they’ll see us as we are Instead of falsely as we want to be I say give them what we got! Show em exactly who we are not! She sends letter to my mailbox cause she says they mean much more When they’re written with the pen and not just typed out on the paper They speak of marching to the capital and overthrowing governments She says it’s just how I think of love Even though it isn’t relevant She says if I was just a baby would our love be any different Would you hold me and protect me just like you have before Well I’m sorry that I’m cynical I said Love is just a dirty word When it’s coming straight from you, so do what you need to do. I’m spending evenings on the freeway with the bats under the moonlight While you’re busy dodging traffic I’ll be hanging with the animals Because we’re really not so different and our looks are much the same We both use our eyes see our prey and our hands and mouths to conquer them See it only takes a little bit of our own self stimulation To admit that we don’t care too much for the past and present tense Because we’re living for the moment it never turns out how we planned it She says “I thinks that I see Jupiter” While I’m busy aligning Planets. But no matter what we sell, in time we’ll blow em all straight to hell!! See my heart is like a halfway house My Mind is like a nursery Not the kind where flowers come to bloom But the kind where children cry and scream And I sometimes hold my breath for fear that others want to breathe it And I always say too much and learn that no one wants to hear it Cause we’re all a little scared because we’re always getting older And the first one to act up will be the first one in the cellar Where you’ll think about your rights and wrongs you’ll think about what you have done Well let me just get one thing clear I’ll be the first to be thrown down there If you want to see the world, Well I’ve got a long extension cord! While she found faith in the Synagogues She found love under the bed sheets And the moans she made from passion were the same sounds heard on Sunday Because we’re all a little different in the way we find Religion And whatever works the best will be the reason you’re forgiven Cause we’re all created from the earth and derived from different chemicals The things that make us different are the same things that we will repent She says forgive me for my anger Forgive me but it makes me wet I say forgiveness doesn’t count when I’m not your lord and savior So save your sorrows and your pains for someone who can help you change. Well in the dirty corners there is always room for cleaning And she swears she’s doing well since she’s taking medication She says she died once in a laundry mat and she died once in the gutter But whatever doesn’t kill you Seems to always make you stutter Well I write my lines more sinister they call me their Excalibur Cause I’m colder than a stone Till the right one grabs a hold you know You say you don’t believe in god today well I won’t believe in you tomorrow And so this chapter ends So Fuck you and your friends

v1 In different cultures, in different ways In words on a page or hands to their feet Respect our elders, tribute to the way They raise us up, to who we're gonna be Persistence, patience, and sacrifice Love, commitment, and care We fight, we argue, success we go through From first to the last, you're always there c1 It wasn't always perfect, but nothing ever is Did your best, and from the heart WIth a strong foundation of love and inspiration how to live, how to love, how to do my part v2 Many lessons learned, as the pages turn In our lives, and the books we read Bikes and movies, friends and stories Provide for everything we need Challenges, support, encouragement Trust, ambition, and faith Shoulder to lean on, guiding beacon At every stage you've been there c2 bridge I never realized it when we were younger But now I see at all so clear Behind it all, you had our best in mind So thankful to have you both here...

The smoking guitar You set the bar Higher than anything I'd seen You played with fire Walked on a wire Like something from out of a dream Did we pass it along? Did they inherit my song? Some silly tight pants Too awkward to dance But you sing like a bird in the wind Tubular bells This much I can tell It seemed a good place to begin Did we pass it along? Did they inherit my song? The sins of the fathers The sons & the daughters Are doomed to life on the road In time we will see If they're just like me 50 states to call their own 50 states to call their home Thousands of glasses You spoke to the masses The truth, with a small dash of lies We heard you call out You dealt with the fallout Told you we didn't mind Did we pass it along? Did they inherit the song? The sins of the fathers The sons & the daughters Are doomed to life on the road In time we will see If they're just like me 50 states to call their own 50 states to call their home --- insert bad-ass harmonica solo here --- Do we pass it along? Do they inherit our songs? The sins of the fathers The sons & the daughters Are doomed to life on the road In time we will see If they're just like me 50 states to call their own The sins of the fathers The sons & the daughters Are doomed to life on the road In time we will see If they're just like me 50 states to call their own 50 states to call their home

Use the now well use the now well now For now will only be now now soon now will just be then You cannot save now up for later Use the now well now Do by not doing See by not looking Hear by not listening Find by not seeking Discover by not thinking Everything’s in nothing I yam what I yam and that's all that I yam. So it is best for me to yam the best that I can I should not force myself to turnip. Turnip knows not how to yam. I yam as I am, it’s alright really Use the now well use the now well now For now will only be now now soon now will just be then You cannot save now up for later Use the now well

I lost the battle I lost the war I lost her love when you walked in the door That used to bug me i got over it I could never be the man she needs to commit If you shd ever hurt a hair on her head There's gonna be a problem If you say run away I'll go run away Honest as a hornet's stinger But keep your cool tonight If you wanna stay alive Got an itchy trigger finger I don't wanna kill you But i will if i have to I don't wanna hear another bad word, you don't wanna treat her right I don't wanna hurt you But i will if you make me Treat her like the queen she is to me You'll wish you didn't pick this fight I know your address I stole your phone I know where you drink And when you like to get stoned I wish you joy and i wish you pain I wish for knives inside your jugular vein But as long as you love her I'll stay out of the way I'll give you space but just a little If you say run away I'll go run away Honest as a hornet's stinger But keep your cool tonight If you wanna stay alive Got an itchy trigger finger I don't wanna kill you But i will if i have to I don't wanna hear another bad word, you don't wanna treat her right I don't wanna hurt you But i will if you make me Treat her like the queen she is to me You'll wish you didn't pick this fight

about

This week's assignment, from Jerry:
"Most of you have at least heard of the 10 Commandments. If you don't have a copy of the book, you can find them online. Using the number of your contribution this week (Clay - 1, Jerry - 2, etc.), write a song in relation to that Commandment. It does not have to be a literal translation of that Commandment. For instance, Pink Floyd's "Mother" would work for #5, as would Eagles' "Take It Easy" for #4. Whoever is #11 should write something inspired by the Tao of Pooh. Or the Commandment of their choosing."

Clay: “You shall have no other gods before Me.

Jerry: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; 5 you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, 6 but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Steve: “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

Corky: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Anand: “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

Doug: “You shall not murder.

Duncan: “You shall not commit adultery.

Mitchell: “You shall not steal.

Patrick: “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

Jason: “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Susan: well, see above.
