Someone should’ve told you
your lonely ways won’t hold you
when nights are getting colder again Been standing by your side here
there’s nowhere left to hide, dear,
you got me crawling out of my skin Never saw it coming Though everything was crumbling But you never even opened your eyes Anyone could tell you The lies they tried to sell you Cut your ego down to size Told you that you shoulda been running You just laughed and played your violin Now I’m standing on the top of the mountain While you’re waiting for the truth to sink in So how long will it last you Your pride, I watched it blast you Screaming ‘bout your misery And when you make your landing You find the last one standing Hope you like your company Someone should’ve told you
your lonely ways won’t hold you
when nights are getting colder again Been standing by your side here
there’s nowhere left to hide, dear,
you got me crawling out of my skin Told you that you shoulda been running You just laughed and played your violin Now I’m standing on the top of the mountain While you’re waiting for the truth to sink in

Lord that river’s running high Not sure we’ll survive If it’s all the same, never leave your side Feel the walls are crumbling Feel your body trembling Take my hand I’m with you on this ride Soldiers song we’re humming coming, still in shock In your time or sorrow, I will be your rock If your losing time, I’ll be your clock If the heavens come undone, We’ll be searching for the sun Until my dying breath, your love will be my rock Hard to see the light of day What else left to say Search for silver linings where they fall How can this be happening? Maybe in the end Find a bit of lightning we can hold

v1: It's a beautiful day, but the plans we made Have fallen apart, so we hesitate To put 'em back together in any meaningful way ------- The rain is falling, no that's not true But it might as well from my point of view I'll add some more to the list before this day is through pre: Wake up // Get out Listen to the sound... the one that says you've got to... ch: Love who you are Forget who you're not 'Cause sometime the sunshine is all we've got v2: So we wander away, but we should have known Or we drag ourselves down, sink like a stone But we know deep in our hearts we're not on our own ------- You've got God on your side, that's what they've said So you keep on searching for daily bread Someday you won't feel like you're hanging by a thread pre: Wake up // Get out Listen to the sound... the one that says you've got to... ch: Love who you are Forget who you're not 'Cause sometime the sunshine is all we've got -- some sort of solo -- pre: Wake up // Get out Listen to the sound... the one that says you've got to... ch: Love who you are Forget who you're not 'Cause sometime the sunshine is all we've got tag: We're certain to fall But it's not dark yet And sometimes a new day is all we get

Weapon in her eyes She was running around with girls half her age  And the rumors did sound behind her back they did rage She made off with a circus clown  When the carnival came to town She had a weapon in her eyes weapon in her eyes  weapon in her eyes Dyed her hair purple for the Halloween parade She could be quite hurtful She never figured out how to behave  The only thing that could calm her down  Is when a stranger would buy the next round She had a weapon in her eyes weapon in her eyes  weapon in her eyes when she was a child she was a little angel then she went wild she headed into danger she’d would always run away she’d come back with a another name She had a weapon in her eyes weapon in her eyes  weapon in her eye

The written words delivered to a door Penned by others In times of yore Some IOUs to keep the water on Traded for labor Long gone The paper children trusted to be taken to their homes Carefully delivered by the one who walks alone In all the neighborhoods across the land The one who knows where everybody lives From sprawling mansions To humble digs The hopes and dreams are right against the skin Just for a moment It must soak in

Opened up a music box you left when you went away Chimed away a broken tooth a lullaby of day Filled my head with empty words and visions of blue jeans Don’t much care ‘bout what it’s worth and e’en less ‘bout what it means Three years since you left me there at the alter of our dreams Hear your voice a’singing out with breathless pearly wings Going home Going home Going home Little girl’s picked herself up she didn’t talk for half a year She likes to talk to you, pretends this music box your ear Seen it happen so often I thought I’d have a try All I got was this here song and one hell of a bad cry Three years since you left me there at the alter of our dreams Hear your voice a’singing out with breathless pearly wings Going home Going home Going home Cross the lonely universe where Heaven meets the end Send a message through the dark a prayer on the wind Solar flares and nebula churn notes upon their breeze Send my word to Avalon across the vacant seas One day soon when time has had its ravaging discourse I’ll fly to you on stellar winds to join you at the source I’ll be going home Going home Going home

The lights are down, it's dark in the cave I'll make the coffee but I'm gettin' up late We've got some time, to roll around today It's quiet outside, I'm staying in the house Whatcha cookin' in the kitchen, all them clanky sounds The smell is sweet and I hear you in there buzzin around It's easy honey Easy Honey just for me Back from the day, I made it home It's crazy out there, just pullin the stone I'm gonna put up my feet, and rest my bones Here you come babe, just sit by me I'll put my paws around you and we'll let the world be I didn't know before I met ya, that you is what I need You give me easy honey, anytime I want, It's easy just for me I'm rollin around, belly up on the ground wonderin when you're ever coming down Buzzin in the tree, yeah you're teasin me whatcha got in the oven I bet it's sweet If I get my paws around you, what am I gonna do? Kiss and hug ya, squeeze and love ya Get you to give me some of that Easy honey You give me easy honey, whenever I need

about

This week, it’s my turn for the assignment:

As I’m sure most of you know, John Prine is hanging on by a thread right now. This week, in John’s honor, I want you all to spend an hour with John’s music. Read up on him, too, if you’re not as familiar as you ought to be. Read his Wiki entry, read some lyric sheets, and if you’re so inclined, read Eddie Huffman’s excellent bio, “John Prine: In Spite Of Himself.” There’s no requirement for your writing this week to reflect a Prine influence, but you’re encouraged to see if you can learn something and apply it.

Also, don’t forget that starting this week, you’ll be required to critique one song from the previous round.
