The Warrior’s Code I light this fire in my hands This fire in my hands And these hands I will protect my clan I will fight them all I will fight them all All for one and one for all We stay together til the end Wayayooh We are coming up Loyalty We are loyal to each other No one can break our bond And if the enemy should ever come They’ll spill their blood for me I’ll spill my blood for them Wayayooh We are coming up So it’s understood, defend your clan even with your life Do not hunt or trespass on another clan’s territory Prey is killed only to be eaten. Give thanks for its life Newly appointed warriors will keep a silent vigil for one night after receiving their warrior’s name Boundaries must be checked daily and challenge anyone who trespasses This is the Warrior’s Code Wayayooh We are coming up

We Are Warriors by Shu Nakamura 2020 (Verse1) It’s been a long suffocating time I don’t know what I am doing in here anymore Isolated from society, just like confined inside of walls Can somebody take our life back just as it was before Fear and anxiety slowly terminate our mind Seeing what’s going on in the world just make us feel uptight But we know this is not gonna last long This will end anytime soon and we are gonna fight (Chorus) We are warriors, we’ll never surrender We are warriors, fight for us and for our friends We are warriors, we’ll be survivors We are warriors, fight until the end (Verse2) The enemy is not among us, but it’s right on the corner We don’t need violence, don’t hurt each other Don’t be deluded, the enemy is right near Don’t be distracted, hold on tight, until we get there (Chorus) We are warriors, we’ll never surrender We are warriors, fight for us and for our friends We are warriors, we’ll be survivors We are warriors, fight until the end

There's something to be said For the soldier alive and dead Fighting for the border For the lines that are in our head The lines were created By man not Jah The only border is the water's edge If you pledge you can find the end Everyone is someone's child In a territorial world gone wild There must be peace for our Brothers There must be peace for our Sisters There must be peace for our Fathers There must be peace for our Mothers
4.
Baskar steel that glimmers in the sun Not afraid to track down anyone Soldier for a fee, find you wait and see Only thing they never see, what’s hiding underneath Never, never see what’s hiding underneath Never, never see that man I’m meant to be Give me the all hardest chips you have Wonder about my business, never ask Fightings in my genes, not all that it seems Child is now the youngling I have sworn In the creed Never, never see that man I’m meant to be Never, never see what’s hiding underneath This is they way This is they way
5.

Jimmy was a sailor He had sea foam in his eyes Living here ain’t easy In a pinched off sewer pipe Got the call to watch out Said the reds have lit their fire Order came, make ready Now it’s time to dive Tensions are high And the amine suffocates Far gone though we might On to depth, we wait Coffin racks in five For the needless complicate Oh, oh, we wait We wait Seconds creep by hours And the sweating lights so bright Son and daughter soldiers In the quietesse we hide Radio is silent No orders since the last Staying vigil, knives out No signals on the mast Tensions are high And the amine suffocates Far gone though we might On to depth, we wait Coffin racks in five For the needless complicate Oh, oh, we wait We wait

v1: I am willing to get my hands dirty As long as we're fighting on the side of mercy A little extra grace to get us through I know it's not my place to tell you what to do ch: But if it's your fight, it's my fight As long as who we're fighting for is on the right side There's no such thing as somebody else's war But what are we fighting for? v2: I don't understand the need to get ahead Got a copy of the Good Book, that ain't what I read I ain't sayin' we gotta make ourselves small Just gotta love out neighbors, I think that is all ch: But if it's your fight, it's my fight As long as who we're fighting for is on the right side There's no such thing as somebody else's war But what are we fighting for? -- harmonica -- ch: But if it's your fight, it's my fight As long as who we're fighting for is on the right side There's no such thing as somebody else's war ------- But if it's your fight, it's my fight As long as who we're fighting for is on the right side There's no such thing as somebody else's war But what are we fighting for?

I heard the steps Cross the railway yard The jack of clubs In a cloud of cards With the tethers tight to keep the bindle’s ghosts I’ll send you word When I reach the coast Outside Slidell They stole my boots These brown shirt boys pressed new recruits I miss your voice It’s been so long I miss the bitter rasp of
spite in your song I loved you through the thunder
I loved through the flood but the morning will sound no alarms There’s a time for the blazing
a time to fight fire But the time has come to lay down your arms I most forgot What this feels like The fist unclenched The fever spiked I’ll save in state This rusty chain I won’t forget Who robbed the rain I loved you through the thunder
I loved through the flood but the morning will sound no alarms There’s a time for the blazing
a time to fight fire But the time has come to lay down your arms Dreamed that dream again The checkpoints locked in someone traced their name in blood The transports full to bust The rigs left to rust dogtags lying in the mud I loved you through the thunder
I loved through the flood but the morning will sound no alarms There’s a time for the blazing
a time to fight fire But the time has come to lay down your arms

“After All” Who is the winner If we’re torn apart? The game was over Even from the start We are one A fight for the future We are one Better together This is a call To all our friends and leaders The prophets and the people We all just need some healing After all This is a call To fill the great divide With love as our guide We all just need some healing After all Strap on your boots Masks of compassion Fear is fleeting faster For the call to action We are one Race to the finish line We are one Running out of time This is a call To all our friends and leaders The prophets and the people We all just need some healing After all This is a call To fill the great divide With love as our guide We all just need some healing After all

about

This week’s assignment comes from Shu:

“For Veterans Day/Armistice Day/Poppy Day, write a song about warriors, fighters, soldiers... (fiction or nonfiction, any kind of - example: space warriors, firefighters...) in reggae or ska. Ya-man!"

I am going to take a rare bit of editorial privilege here: it’s going to be a crazy week, with lots of emotions running high. Our judges may give leeway as they please, but I am not going to put anyone on probation this week for not writing a reggae or ska song. Please do make an effort to follow the assignment, but I’m not sure that everyone is going to want to be limited by the mood-parameters that a genre assignment might dictate. Fair enough?
