Mitchell Snow - Hi-O

I
I went for a ramble
One pale winter’s morn
The sky overhead gave no hint of a storm
I reached for my pipe
But I fumbled my pouch
Match-sticks and tobacco and all did pour out
Hi-O
II
I went for a ramble
One pale winter’s morn
The sting of the air was no cause for alarm
I stroll at my leisure
I stray from the trail
This worried me not for the way I knew well
Hi-O
When a cloud
Came and swallowed
What there was of the Sun
I wondered aloud,
"Lord, what have I done?"
III
I went for a ramble
One pale winter’s morn
And I huffed in my hands and I tried to keep warm
But my fingers were stupid
And deaf to my wills
Then the frost bared its teeth and it gnawed at my heels
Hi-O

Mowing for the last Time of the year.
Maybe the last time ever.
Time to call some kid.
About taking it over.
That time could be used better.
For more important things.
Like maybe reading poetry.
Or grilling up some wings
Sometimes growing old aint that bad
Dont go feeling sorry, dont go feeling sad
Look at what you’ve got, not so much what you had
Sometimes growing old aint that bad
Some folks think I’m pretty clever
Some might might even say cunning
I don’t have time to write a song this week
So you might say I’m punting

I saw a house on TV
Some 47 rooms on a
Cliff above the sea
I put myself in that house
Imagined gin and tonics
With my supermodel spouse
Somewhere out west of the night
I saw a flaming spear of light
Go shooting cross the sky
Thundering loud as cannonballs
Had to pull off to the side
I wish you’d call
I have to change
And I don’t know if I can change
I’ve lost the depth, I’ve lost the range
I have to change
I read a book about the war
About two brothers left divided
By the colors that they wore
Out on the front lines they’d meet
Locked in private reverie
the stalemate’s heat
I have to change
And I don’t know if I can change
I’ve lost the depth, I’ve lost the range
I have to change

A lone little boy
Walked to a crossroad
Sure where he’d been
Not clear where he’d go
The path north was wide
And west where he’d come
South was a haze
And east not the one
Why follow a path?
The land is the land
He make his own way
To become a man
Through the brush plain
Where coyote would roam
He felt the land call
He knew he was home

The Middle Ages
Situated between classical antiquity
And the modern era
A time of population decline
And counterrurbanization
Receding hairlines and peak tv
Where do we go from here
It’s a time for old beginnings
Backyard fires and singalongs
The Middle Ages
Fall colors are in style
Vikings, Magyars and Saracens
Bringing in a fresh set of sounds
Against a backdrop
Of famine, plague and war
Where do we go from here
In the cadence of the choir
Is the holy sound of the ancient melody
Decked out in the new style
The heart is locked in a wall
Like a lonely anchoress
In the many she sees but one
She rises up toward the sun
Drifts through stone and steel
Joins with the seraphim
comes down in the rain
lives again and again
In the green things that grow
Pushing up through the snow
As the crocus in the spring
And the summer dandelion
And the feathers on the breeze
In the Middle Ages

BIG HOUSE
IN THE BIG HOUSE
EVERYTHING IS MINE
IN THE BIG HOUSE
EVERYTHING IS FINE
AND YOU’LL FIND YOURS
AND I’LL FIND MINE
IN THE BIG HOUSE
IN THE BIG HOUSE
ALL IS RIGHT
IN THE BIG HOUSE
WE’RE OUT OF SIGHT
AND YOU’LL FIND YOURS
AND I’LL FIND MINE
IN THE BIG HOUSE.
IN THE BIG HOUSE
THE SUN WILL SHINE
IN THE BIG HOUSE
LIVING ON CLOUD NINE
AND YOU’LL FIND YOURS
AND I’LL FIND MINE
IN THE BIG HOUSE 2x

baby I can tell that you got
something on your mind
fighting back the tears all you can do
to keep from crying
why don't you tell me exactly
what's got you down
maybe I help you get your mind right
help you come around
are you torn up
are you brought down
are you trapped in
are you strung out
is the stress too high
got you feeling low
I can help you get your
feet on the floor
do you not want to do the things
that you have loved before
the dance that you used to do
doesn't have the same spark anymore
move around choose some different moves
you never know that color might look
good on you
are you torn up
are you brought down
are you trapped in
are you strung out
is the stress too high
got you feeling low
I can help you get your
feet on the floor
