Doug Baker - Autumn Hymn
02:28
|
|||
As the days start growing shorter
And the leaves turn to rust and brown
May we turn our spirits inward
Where true peace may be found
As the orchard offers fruit for us
And the season gives first frost
Let’s give thanks for nature’s bounty
And raise a glass to those we’ve lost
Before the winter wind blow in
And binds us to hearth and home
May we feel the love of friends and kin
And know we are not alone
As the days start growing shorter
And the leaves turn to rust and brown
May we turn our spirits inward
Where true peace may be found

The trouble is
I've got the schadenfreude philistine blues

Welcome to my home
I guess I should show
Show you around the place
It’s not much, you can see
Livin' in humility
I hope you’ll grant me some grace
Take a load right off your feet
And plan to stay awhile
You won’t wear out your welcome
Hanging with me in style
I had heard you were on your way
Arriving any day
They told me as much on the news
They said it’d be pretty bad
And it made me so sad
Even so I knew what to choose
See, this is not my first rodeo
Not my first time around
I believe in my abilities
To keep my feet on the ground
Now it starts to dawn on me as
This foundation breaks
It's possible that I was wrong
Ain't it hard to admit mistakes
I think you should go
For finally I know
You’re more than I bargained for
If I could do it again
Perhaps on a whim
I’d leave before the storm

In the pinewood arsenic frames
I’ll be laying there someday
Killing time, one could say
Silly rapture, lies in wait
It’s a wrap, my ticket’s punched
Christ ain’t payin’, we’re going Dutch
Regrets? Hell, I’ve got a bunch
Where I’m goin’, I’ve got a hunch
On the palest horse she rides
Moving lifeline’s ocean tides
My greatest love, my loving bride
I’ll be waiting, don’t you cry
There’s a lot I’m bound to miss
Summer sailing, and tender kiss
Building snowmen, and childish bliss
Still I’m lucky, got to see all this
When brother Gabriel calls me home
Ain’t no vicar, and they ain’t in Rome
Little truths in dusty tomes
Ain’t gon’ save you, we all die alone

Devil Wind
02:22
|
|
||
Big bull stud had a heart attack
Cause the devil wind’s a blowing
Old man says “better watch your back”
Cause the devil wind blows
Dry old timber gonna go up quick
When the devil wind’s a blowing
Neighbor acts like a lunatic
Cause the devil wind blows
It comes down from the canyon
Picks up a head of steam
Rolling like a big freight train
It’ll terrorize your dreams
That’s the devil wind
Old shed roof through a pane of glass
Cause the devil wind’s a blowing
Sleeping kids gonna wake up fast
When the devil wind blows
Mountain lion gonna stay in bed
Cause the devil wind’s a blowing
You’d best too or you’ll end up dead
When the devil wind blows
It comes down from the canyon
Picks up a head of steam
Rolling like a big freight train
It’ll terrorize your dreams
Don’t know why it’s blowing
Most say we never will
It looks for fuel to feed it’s flame
Like a demon potter’s kiln
That’s the devil wind

When I was younger
I could hear those sweet sermons
Those signals came from deep in space
Out on the AM to me,
Under my pillow,
Felt like I’d won the human race
ships on the coastline sending
Maydays to shore
nothing but static on those
Channels no more
Your towel sings spirit of
Seventy-six
brown pleather burns your
Sun-kissed calves
That evil woman stole the sound of the sun
the song of sepia photographs
a melody knows
a frequency froze
Taking me back to the start
A chorus, a rhyme
Travels in time
I’ve got a silvertone heart
and now we’ve seen another
Century gone by
you’ve got the whole world at your touch
Flick on the philco
And it’s nothing but poison
I miss those AM days so much
ships on the coastline sending
Maydays to shore
nothing but static on those
Channels no more
a melody knows
a frequency froze
Taking me back to the start
A chorus, a rhyme
Travels in time
I’ve got a silvertone heart

Time Slips Away
Time slips away in a beautiful way
Time lets you go and it tells you so
Who decides and who denies
Who understands the love in your eyes
Time has a way of saying goodbye
Time has a way of making you cry
One man believes what another can’t say
In the end they both slip away

Storm a Comin'
The Weatherman says there's a storm a comin'
storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
You better take care, You better take warning
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
Stop at the store peanut butter and bread
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
All my flashlight batteries are dead
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
It's starting to rain like cats and dogs
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
Raining so hard it could choke a frog
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
Tops of the trees are spinning round and round
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
Dark black clouds reaching down for the ground
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
Neighbors chicken coop flew past my door
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
The neighbor ain't got a roof no more
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
The Weatherman said there's a storm a coming
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
If I was you I'd take off running
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'
There's a storm a comin', there's a storm a comin'

wanna be a bum
wanna be a king
wanna give it all away
I want everything
I wanna know it all
wanna live in ignorant bliss
wanna wallow in my misery
want some happiness
always a missing piece
two sides to every coin
it's a double edged sword
I got a wailin heart
When I'm gone
I want to be back home
when I'm back
I'm thinking of the road
always a missing piece
two sides to every coin
it's a double edged sword
I got a wailin heart

I
I went
To the wishing well
And set
A coin free
I called your name
As it fell
And they all laughed
At me
II
I walk
The winding trail
I swim
The endless sea
As far as I can tell
Nowhere I’m meant
To be
III
I went
To the wishing well
And set
A coin free
I called your name
As it fell
And pledged my heart
To Thee
