We met on a saturday Trying hard to avoid each other’s stare I was holding a budwiser He was standing there I was always shy to some Far away not one to talk a lot Heard he was trouble But willing to take a shot All outta love open to try Follow my heart for the first time One Step, Closer to Love Didn’t expect to find it - but we didn’t mind it One Step, closer to love First look and it was there One step closer to love Dreams it seemed were for other folks Deserved em more than I did He was different and saw the real me Polish off the edges He's a diamond in the rough At least for once I'm feeling happy Trust in my heart Head in my hand Pray to God that I found good man

Terminal @ 66 Lyrics: Jon Witteveen V1 There is a rock down on Highway 66 A monument to motion and the mechanics of logistics An asphalt island, of concrete, brick and steel Now a half-remembered headstone in a lonely potter’s field V2 I was there when she was vital and kinetic When efficiencies were high and we recorded every metric The switchers on the yard kept the rhythm and the flow I worked the loads and watched the tow motors roll C1 Over the road, those engines burning And the local 391, they kept all those wheels turning In diesel, in dust, in grease and rust we trust We were the Terminal at 66 and she was us V3 As the brothers of the Union moved in lock-step And baby’s mothers mended carts ‘til there was none left Drawing in and breathing out, this was no cold machine We cross-docked hope and she distributed dreams C2 Over the road, those engines burning And the local 391 kept those wheels turning In diesel, in dust, in grease and rust we trust We were the Terminal at 66 and she was us BRIDGE And we can see her decline in the rearview With the Spirit of the Stairs sayin’, “if only you…” But the truth is we’re dead or we’re dying And those tears were dry before we knew we were crying C3 Over the road, those engines burning And the local 391, they kept all those wheels turning In diesel, in dust, in grease and rust we trust We were the Terminal at 66 and she was us V4 There is a rock down on Highway 66 A monument to motion and the mechanics of logistics Some days I half-forget but it’s the best that I can do I worked the line as Checker 10-5-2

Try Your Wish Again I ain’t had a job in months And the bills ain’t getting’ paid My lottery numbers keep missin’ Can’t seem to catch a break So I went outside one evenin’ To give it another try And I wished upon the brightest star In that Carolina night sky As I stood there waiting And staring into space Well nothin’ seemed to happen Then I thought I heard a voice say You’ve got the wrong constellation Did you make your wish just right You’ve got the wrong constellation Are you sure you’re in the right night You’ve reached the wrong constellation You wish did not go through Please check the star that you wished on And try your wish again Well it only takes one hand To count my lucky stars They must be in another galaxy Or hiding behind Mars And my rabbit’s foot ain’t kickin’ And my horseshoe it won’t ring So I guess I’ll go out every night And find the first star that I see When I wish upon a star You know it says right back to me You’ve got the wrong constellation Did you make your wish just right You’ve got the wrong constellation Are you sure you’re in the right night You’ve reached the wrong constellation You wish did not go through Please check the star that you wished on And try your wish again Sometimes when things ain’t workin’ out You blame it all on luck You wish on every star in the sky And it’s never gonna be enough You’ve got the wrong constellation Did you make your wish just right You’ve got the wrong constellation Are you sure you’re in the right night You’ve reached the wrong constellation You wish did not go through Please check the star that you wished on And try your wish again

When I came back down Oh how I wish I could forget all the love I felt in side when they touched me and surrounded me Far Far away One night in space is where I've been Oh how I long to be more than just their animal again Just take me in Don't call for me, don't cry for me back home I will give myself to you Please Pry at me, please tie me up again God knows Its strange But I feel I belong back there with them Just an object and a specimen to test with words to share Oh how I pray that they needed me as I needed them to tear to rip apart like a wounded animal again Please take me in Remember me as I fall asleep I will give myself to you This worlds unkind to me In the stars I do belong I will give myself to you Take me back I want to be more than just your animal again Just take me in

Why are you waiting, complaining, just listen to me I can't keep playing pretending to be what you need So I'm starting over I need you to just let me leave Nothing to cling to believe me we'll be what we'll be. I can't tell you why I've tried and I've tried So this is goodbye Don't look back I know you're sorry I may not be your one and only There's no way I can stay I'm leaving but I'm not running away You go your way I'll go mine It's gonna hurt but in a little while If our love is true then maybe I'll come back to you. I cant take the silence together Night after night It's getting harder the moments nothing feels right I can't tell you why I'm tired of the fight I've tried and I've tried Don't look back I know you're sorry I may not be your one and only There's no way I can stay I'm leaving but I'm not running away You go your way I'll go mine It's gonna hurt but in a little while If our love is true then maybe I'll come back to you. If it's the end Maybe someday we can still be friends Don't look back I know you're sorry I may not be your one and only There's no way I can stay I'm leaving but I'm not running away You go your way I'll go mine It's gonna hurt but in a little while If our love is true then maybe I'll come back to you.

Rufus’s phone woke him up 20 minutes before his alarm was set that day His heel twisted on a dog's bone when he rose, a little cursing made it ok. He threw some coffee down his neck His socks were odd but but he said what the heck I'm so happy. So very happy. I am doing what I want my own way. I take action. Find satisfaction. Make the world a little better everyday. He pulled up to a run down home filled to the gills with cats and old parade magazines He held his breath and he entered to repair the rustiest john that he’d ever seen His work wasn’t pretty, it was art She was broke, He took a loss on the parts He was happy… After dark he could sit down Watch a screen to see fancy faces frown They all complain that they are helpless to act until the other faces stop being mean He clicked the screen off and he sighed He closed his eyes but his grin began to grow wide He was invisible to some But he had helped someone’s grandma stay in her home He was happy...

Ronnie, the singer in this "Southern Rock Love Ballad", is all about getting back to the business of making it right with his girl so he can get back to "the business" of loving her. He wrote the song after a rough stretch in their 22 year relationship. In his last interview with RS he said, "The toughest job I ever had was winning her back and this song let her know my heart." He then went on to say, "It didn't hurt that I mentioned my dead mama in the song either. They got on real good." Amazing - Southern Rock look up at the stars tonight holding you everything feels right the moon is shining down the light charlie daniels on the radio ‘ baby we ain’t gonna change got no plans to rearrange never wanna turn the page things are good the way things are you are so amazing now - you are so amazing now - you are so amazing now mama said to open up your heart you risk the world will fall apart but the gain is like a work of art it’s the best just me and you son you know when you fall in love someone’s smiling on us from up above looking down she’s so proud of just how far we’ve come girl you are so amazing now - you are so amazing now - you are so amazing now there were days when we thought that we would lose there were nights when we both had to choose to stick it out to try a little harder hold on a little longer

don't say your love is a living thing in motion push comes to shove and I won't stand around to see everybody can see that this is killing me I'm not ready to forgive you yet never made such a wasted bet all I see is the silhouette of the friend you used to be every time you put your knife in me there's a little less sympathy I'm not ready to forgive you yet I don't know if I can be the one you need this I believe before the fury fades to black there's no reprieve when the blackness pulls me back if I could ever be free from this weakness in me Where goes the good To balance out the sting? To raise, as you should, The offerings I bring It took so long to come round This bitter wisdom I've found I'm not ready to forgive you yet never made such a wasted bet all I see is the silhouette of the friend you used to be every time you put your knife in me there's a little less sympathy I'm not ready to forgive you yet I don't know if I can be the one you need

about

Albus' assignment:
"One instrument, one voice."

Doug's assignment:
"After years of being everyone's favorite local singer that never gets up on stage, Ms. Susan Snow is showing signs of life. She's a capable writer with no help necessary from you, thank you, but let's pad out her setlist. Write a song for Susan. I realize that not all of you know her, and even those that do may not have seen her in her element. To give you a primer, she's a rootsy, gutsy, Cosmic-American-style singer. I often think of her for her amazing recreations of Emmylou Harris songs. She sings like an angel, but she's plenty earthy, too. She digs Gillian Welch and the Replacements, the Jayhawks and the Pretenders, Lucinda Williams and Beck ... you get the picture. I don't know if everyone can see this, but here's a link to her in performance recently: www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10204460787066992&pnref=story"

Patrick's assignment:
"This is totally random, but I recently watched bill and Teds excellent adventure for the first time in a while. For this challenge I want you to write a serious song from the perspective of the character assigned to you telling how the time travel trip in the Telephone booth..or being involved in the whole incident effected the rest of your life after bill and Ted returned you to your original time period... did you tell the world of your travels and the advances in technology? Did you keep it to yourself? Did you go crazy? How did it effect your life? Mitchell you are Joan of Arc. Doug you are Genghis Khan. Susan you are Ludwig van Beethoven. Steve you are Billy the kid. Andrew you are Sigmund Freud. John you are Napoleon. Jason you are Rufus. Anand you are Socrates. I am Abraham Lincoln. Clay can play the role of Mr Ryan, the teacher who was going to fail Bill and Ted on their assignment. Write about how their presentation and the events that occurred effected him. And go."

Anand's assignment:
" tried this once before and most people didn't really go for it, so let's try again. Write a song w/ a very personal and specific reference (to a person, place, etc.) but it needs to use a specific name w/ strong image. Ex. "Penny Lane, Strawberry Fields, Jackson Cannery" not "A Song to My Mom" or "My Dog Rules". Any style, genre, tempo. Just make sure the listener has a strong feeling about it."

Clay's assignment:
"You must wrote a Holiday song, however this song must appropriate the vibe/feel of a great summer song. No sleigh bells, or church organs- happy feel good choruses must be in place...
Don't celebrate the Christmas? Make it any of the other holidays celebrated between Thanksgiving and New Year. ..Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Festivus...whatever...but make it warm and catchy."

Jason's assignment:
"The two hour challenge... set a stopwatch. You have two hours to write and record a song. The recording will be a one take live version of the song you just wrote. Not after two hours. Within the two hours. Must be completed in that time. Acoustic live recording. Not a two track recording. Only one microphone. Electric guitar, piano, etc OK with amp but recording must be performed live with a one track recording. Raw. No reverb. No effects. No fixes. Two hours. When you decide to do it you must email me with 24 hour advance notice to make a phone appointment... and then call me for your song title which I will give you when you start the stopwatch. Oh yeah! Doug will assign my title when the time is right for me." [email Jason or email or call Doug for Jason's #.]

Corky's assignment:
"Southern Rock is back. Recreate the awesome vibe that Lynyrd Skynyrd had when Ronnie was still alive and write a song about a 'business man'."

Mitchell's assignment:
"My assignment is to write a sequel to a song you've submitted (or, if you prefer or if you're new, to a song that anyone else has previously submitted) to MM3AM. It can be from any round, including the current one. By sequel, I do mean an actual sequel - as in what took place after the events of the song prior. NOT a song of completely new subject that shares as similar arrangement or any of that mess (though it can be musically similar - or even the same, if you'd like)."

Susan's assignment:
"My assignment is one word:

space
To be interpreted however you like (lyrically, melodically, rhythmically, philosophically, outer space, the third dimension, personal space, etc.)"

Jon's assignment:
"I often describe my songwriting genre as Gospel music, using the term “Gospel” in the broadest sense possible...my 'Gospel' may sound more like Iron & Wine than Al Green, more Siouxsie Sioux than Sandi Patti. Plainly speaking, my intent is to make Christian art that doesn’t suck. So my challenge is this: write a 'sacred' song in *your style* that doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator. I realize not everyone holds the same faith and some may have no faith...all well and good...Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Baha’i, Agnostic, Atheist, Satanist, or whatever…write something *heartfelt* and *lyrically authentic* (happy, angry, doubting, irreverent, etc...honest) in *your style*."

Steve's assignment:
"Narrative
Only minor chords"
