I can count on one hand all the times I’ve been in love.
I can dream a thousand dreams, but when push comes to shove
I cannot remember all the times I’ve had with you.
But I can’t forget that rainy Tuesday afternoon.
You had on a sundress, the straps were razor thin.
I can still imagine how it clung to your tan skin.
We had planned a picnic but it ended way too soon.
It drove us indoors that rainy Tuesday afternoon.
It wasn’t that long ago.
The birds were all singing a somewhat damp May Day tune.
We didn’t know – the joy that was gonna be ours – so very soon.
Something very special happened, something started growing.
Wasn’t long, a month or two, before you started showing.
I may not remember everything we’ve thought to do,
But I can’t forget that rainy Tuesday afternoon.
It wasn’t that long ago.
The birds were all singing a somewhat damp May Day tune.
We didn’t know – the joy that was gonna be ours – so very soon.
I thank God every time I see that smiling face.
And every time it rains, I’ll think about that special place.
It was on that day we became three instead of two.
I’ll always remember that rainy Tuesday afternoon.

Luke Payne - Monday #783

It’s Monday number 783
Since you took your love away from me
I’m channeling Sinead singing Prince
It’s been 18 years plus change and cents
What was it made you think of me today?
I can almost hear your voice say
A touch more gravitas since last I heard it
Wisdom cured and experience matured it
It was the bluetooth mix, it kicked out our old jam
While I was hustling in my kitchen this am
Just brewing the coffee and scrambling the eggs
Trying to get the red blood moving through my arms and legs
Then I heard that snare fill and the phrase on the keys
As the band drops in like a summer breeze
perfect soundtrack for Saturday fun
scrap your plans, spend the day in the sun
It’s a Saturday in a song about Monday
It’s a little chance to drift away
But today it’s Monday number 783
I’m spinning out backwards through my history
That breezy groove that put your face in my mind
Took me straight back to another time
Back then it was a different world we were sharing
Time it was, a time of… red herrings
There they were at school, at the mall and all the shows
Out on every street wearing every kind of clothes
We had red herring for breakfast, lunch and dinner
Diet of champions, sustenance for winners
Winners back in that other world I mean
Before it passed us by, was all just a dream?
It was a time of misdirection that’s the case I am making
That’s the new direction that this monologue is taking
We thought that selling out spoiled the cake that you were baking
But it turns out we just wanted it sweet

amongst the wreckage
You sang yourself to sleep
The Sunday signs were there to see
We left the highway
The comfort of our beds
The black clouds gathering overhead
We lost the memory
The instinct for the flight
We trust the angel wings of night
You search the dial
the breaking news of fear
We lost our bearings, lost our here
I remember all those yearning faces
Locked down and left in traces
Always waiting for the thunderstorms to mass
Blackest sun with the klieg lights beaming
Been here before, we’re dreaming
Never thought we’d see the blackout come to pass
The headlights blind you
The lanes have lost their lines
The chaos builds its own designs
For those who stumble
So slow to sense the threat
She lights another cigarette
But those who answer
Who rush to certain fate
I guess some souls just know their weight
So here I’ll leave you
We take our chances now
Pray I’ll see you there somehow
I remember all those yearning faces
Locked down and left in traces
Always waiting for the thunderstorms to mass
Blackest sun with the klieg lights beaming
Been here before, we’re dreaming
Never thought we’d see the blackout come to pass

Saturday just blew by
Sunday seems the same
Monday mornin’s comin’
An every week refrain
Shaping all my winters
A choir sings a song
Kids are laughin’ sweetly
Draggin’ me along
Daddy can we go to a park today
Seems a fifteen minute lifetime
Since we got to play
Sun is shining, weather’s cool
And our friends are all outside
Know you’re kinda tired
But they just put in a brand new slide
Often take for granted
The time I get with them
Then I will remember
Each moment is a gem
Years, they seem like seconds
Cliche because it’s true
Gotta make time for the young ones
Though there’s lots to do
Daddy can we go to a park today
Seems a fifteen minute lifetime
Since we got to play
Sun is shining, weather’s cool
And our friends are all outside
Know you’re kinda tired
But they just put in a brand new slide
Training wheels are gone now
The struggle is oh so real
Both the young’uns gettin’ older
And yeah, that’s part the deal
Though I’m achin’ in the bones
Share with them the sun
And hope my numbered Summers
Leave plenty time left for fun
Daddy can we go to a park today
Seems a fifteen minute lifetime
Since we got to play
Sun is shining, weather’s cool
And our friends are all outside
Know you’re kinda tired
But they just put in a brand new slide ->2x
I need to do a better job. I’m not a bad Dad, but I know I could be a better one.

ANOTHER SATURDAY
YOU TRY TO LOOK A WAY
WHILE OTHERS STAY THE SAME
SOMEONE GETS IN YOUR WAY
ANOTHER SATURDAY
YOU TRY TO COUNT THE DAYS
WHILE OTHERS PLAY THE GAME
LIKE A STORM OVER YOU
DARK RAIN COMES THROUGH
I’M HIDING I’M HIDING
WHERE I THINK I BELONG
WHERE I THING I BELONG
STANDING ALONE
WHEN ALL THE WHISPERS CRY
WHEN ALL THE CLOUDS ROLL BY
I WONDER WHY I WONDER WHY
I’M HIDING I’M HIDING
WHERE I THINK I BELONG
WHERE I THING I BELONG
STANDING ALONE
YOU TRY TO LOOK A WAY
WHILE OTHERS STAY THE SAME
SOMEONE GETS IN YOUR WAY
ANOTHER SATURDAY

Emily Stewart - No More

Sunday morning tires squealin out the church parking lot
After a gun totin' deacon fired a few dozen shots
He fled alone cause his wife
Tore out the back door in shock
They found her walking down the highway with a bouquet of cotton
No more
Long war
Her mind’s done gone
Friday evening angry voice of his unmerciful god
Was runnin' hot through his head, invoked the blood of the lord
She told the children to hide
They knew their momma could not
She’d soon be walkin down the highway with a bouquet of cotton
No more
Long war
Her mind’s done gone
Tuesday afternoon drivin in the sun blazin hot
Preacher saw a lady wandrin’ - dirty, tattered and fraught
He asked for her name
She said she forgot
She’d been walkin’ down the highway with a bouquet of cotton
No more
Long war
Her mind’s done gone
