The paint's a peeling off the walls He's a feeling so very small Death's a coming to take him home Heart's a running hands on the chrome And he can't go down And he can't hear a sound And his hands are bound Until death comes round Knocking at the door Gonna settle the score Gonna take'em to the floor Bang bang it's war This sensation thru his veins A fixation still it remains Barrel's warm it's a glowing red Bring it on won't stop till he's dead And he can't go down And he can't hear a sound And his hands are bound Until death comes round Knocking at the door Gonna settle the score Gonna take'em to the floor Bang bang it's war

One day I will put down my weapons And go out on my own And the war between myself and others Will have long been left alone Maybe one time I will say the words I was thinking And maybe someday I’ll be idolized in story It’s the memories that often become clearer As time passes by And it’s time that always treats it like a mirror When you want to forget In the Moonlight I will close my eyes I am a plane crash Where everyone around me Always dies I’m a movie I’m the sequel Where the bad guys win And kill me off and pick apart All of my good pieces Maybe one day I will use imagination And portray life How you want to see it It’s the memories that often become clearer As time passes by And its time that always treats it like a mirror When you want to forget I am a land mine I am a grape vine I’m the withered up baggage Of a lost and lonely woman If you hear my name And they speak of me one day Please remember me For all my good pieces During wartime During late night I am a child a play I am a tiger out mid-day Picking out my prey Checking out my signs For the poachers that would Leave me for dead and pick apart All my good pieces

A Vagabond Benediction Searching not for what I love But travel on nonetheless With a roof made by stars above And a road to walk I’m blessed Tarry for a while to see The wind blow life into the hanging moss Feel a connection grow in me Before I make through the river across Let the road wind on eternally stars and sun be always above I seek not wealth nor a friend to know me Skies and roads are my only love Let civil thought not Bend my eye Let me see folk as I see the wind A glimpse of the whole As I pass by Forever on the outside looking in Linger in the moments rare In hours of the day we seldom wield The Smell of basil in the air As suns grow high on mountain fields Let the road wind on eternally stars and sun be always above I seek not wealth nor a friend to know me Skies and roads are my only love

Well I’ve been draggin’ myself around this town for too long I said I’ve been singing the blues and the same old tunes for too long I said one of these days I’m gonna get out and sing a brand new song I’ve been takin your shit for far too many days Said I’m through your lies and your cheatin’ ways I said one-a these day’s I’m gonna rise up outta here and catch my break No one get’s to tell me where I’ve been’ And no one’s seen my life the way I did You can beat me, hurt me, shame me, desert me hate me, cheat me, resent me leave me But I’ll rise up, I will rise up again

Well you know that old man that plays the dobro I'm sure you've seen them around He owns the pawnshop called the crossroads down in the center of town Everybody takes cash Most places take credit But this old devil runs a different kind of game and if you play and you might regret it They say he'll try to buy your soul for a guitar of gold down at the cross roads And on those pretty gold strings you can play anything even if you're awful He found out I was a player- Saw me busking on the side of the road Singing a song to this beater, the only guitar that I've ever known He said some are good with being good Some would rather be better You can play all day the old fashion way but that could take forever Then he tried to buy my soul with a guitar of Gold down at the Cross Roads But on these pretty gold strings man I can't play a thing and the intonation’s awful Anyway I play rock 'n' roll You can't play rock 'n' roll without soul So I took it out on loan I couldn't be rude and just say no So I took her down to my guitar tech Threw on a new set of strings Looked for problems with her neck But couldn't find anything They’re bronze when they’re new They’re bronze when they're old But my guitar strings by the time I got home had turned back into gold This motherfucker tried to buy my soul with a guitar of Gold down at the Cross Roads But on these shitty gold strings I can't play a thing and the intonation’s awful Anyway I play rock 'n' roll and you can't play rock 'n' roll without soul Everybody knows You can't play rock 'n' roll without soul

I never planned to be the one to steal your liberty
I never dreamed I’d be
the one to make you cry
‘cause all I ever want
was to walk away with dignity
the day that you said goodbye So here we are again Without the storm to reel us in And you and I still stand on Flooded ground below And soon or late, we’ll find The scene has gone, the will resigned
so, will we go on with the show? that was horizon and this is the sky your every spark, a new tear in my eye how did I find such good fortune on high, lost at sea lucky me When I was young, they said
the war is only in your head
the flags will wave surrender Any time you choose So I would like to say If you should have me, anyway I’ve nothing left here to lose that was horizon and this is the sky your every spark, a new tear in my eye how did I find such good fortune on high, lost at sea lucky me

bespoke like Mother Maybelle’s garment they stitched a yellow rose on it as a reminder of the sunshine in our hearts you and me bespoke like Sister Rosetta’s raincoat they sealed the seams with a grace note a sure way to keep the music in our hearts you and me well i don’t know about you darlin but i’ve got the feeling that the clouds are parting bespoke like Loretta Lynn’s linens they soaked them in cinnamon a simple statement of the sweetness in our hearts you and me bespoke like Gene Autry’s stetson shaped specific to that Texan an illustration of the choices we all make and i choose you don’t you know i choose you darlin cause i’ve got the feeling i hear my destiny calling are you gonna take me all the way to Jordan on a horse and carriage? bespoke like you to me are darlin and like i know i am to you an expression of the love that’s in our hearts you and me

about

This week’s assignment comes from Tommy:

"Write a song that you can play live after you record it. I have a habit of being in the studio and writing a song I will never play again, simply because I would not be able to recreate it live on one instrument. The simplest way to do this would be to do a “live take” in the studio, meaning that you do the song singing and playing your instrument at the same time and that’s all, no overdubs or re-recording of the bridge. Of course you can re-record and overdub as much as you like, just make sure that you can still make it sound like the recording when you play it again at a live show later on.”
