She put up a wall of alabaster ‘round her heart.
Dense enough to keep me out, but let the light shine in.
Even when I asked her, she could not recite her part.
She’d just cry.
She described herself as needing more, but could not say
What it was she needed - what her plan was - why she cared.
Even when I asked her, she could not confront the truth.
She was scared.
It looks so hard, like stone and steel, but still the light shone in.
But once the light went in, it’d stay right there.
A heart like that cannot survive to say just where it’s been.
Or even if it’s been anywhere.
INSTRUMENTAL
She could not control the circumstances she was giv’n.
So, instead, she let it die, she let it crash and burn.
Even when I asked her, she could not describe the pain.
She’d just burn.
It looks so hard, like stone and steel, but still the light shone in.
But once the light went in, it’d stay right there.
A heart like that cannot survive to say just where it’s been.
Or even if it’s been anywhere.

The road is long, my patience’s thin
Will I go where I’ve already been
For the first time
So very far and always near
Such a mystery that’s crystal clear
Here we go again
Just a comfortable catastrophe
It’s where I always seem to be
If you’re wondering what you’ll find in me
It’s a comfortable catastrophe
Every day seems to bring
An endless litany of who I’ve been
And who I want to be
So why must I second guess
My confidence and my thankfulness
Another time
Just a comfortable catastrophe
It’s where I always seem to be
If you want to know what reigns in me
It’s a comfortable catastrophe
Whoa…
Dare to live inside this space
Whoa…
Come and join the human race
Never knowing what happens next
Good or bad, we’re someone else’s guest
Feeling right at home
It’s a comfortable catastrophe
Come on and join the fun - you’ll see
Things are closer than they seem to be
A comfortable catastrophe
From now on to eternity
It’s a comfortable catastrophe

Sure has been nice
Seeing you again
Though I can’t quite recall your name
S’all been entwined
My mind ain’t what it’s been
Come on in, child, it looks like rain
My room’s a mess
The lady ain’t been by
She works from 7 to 3
Got me a garden
The pansies are in bloom
Got me a stump there for a seat
Spend my time there
Praying for God’s grace
I like to call it my losing place
It’s been on my mind
Is that what’s happened to me
Have I been put here for someone to find
Sometimes, it’s true
I get awful confused
Keep on forgetting things I should know
No one around
Just husks put aside, askew
Here we can share our last losing place
