all I see was given me
what one takes someone receives
oh simplicity
all I need is given me
as long as rain comes
as long as rain falls
the life I need was given me
inside this land in front of me
as long as rain falls
as long as rain comes
oh-the harvest feeds
ourselves and souls in need
why wont the rain come
why won't the rain fall

My father's pa bought this land in '31
Naught but swamp and mud
He brought his bride, put a tin roof o'er her head
sisters said he ain't no good
tried the brightleaf, bought a mule, raised a barn
Credit man smiled crooked smiles
June was warm, the rains were fair, fortune shined
August came, stacked the auction piles (69)
granddad paid his debt, raised the fam'ly tree
Straight as long leaf pine
His son, son in turn, came to cure the leaf
Lee Farm to the county line
surer than the cutworm, good things come to end
'fore we knew the score
war was done, markets closed, auctions' silent floors
No one buys leaf no more (65)
tell me it's not right
tell me it's a sin
same old thing we've always done
Since I remember when
Seven sides to ev'ry tale
Find 'em where you get 'em
Coffin nails and county jails
both kill you if you let 'em (50)
What you do someone change the rules?
Poisons the soil 'neath your feet?
Tells you winter's spring, sweetfern's staggerweed
Vict'ry lap's cold defeat
rows to vines, curing barns to crushing pad
praying for same old rains
Don't suppose anybody dies
From spirits of grapes and grains (62)
tell me it's not right
tell me it's a sin
same old thing we've always done
Since I remember when
Seven sides to every tale
Find 'em where you get'em
Coffin nails and county jails
both kill you if you let 'em

You got teacher bear
In a rocking chair
With a blue kangaroo
I see yubby too
There's a Dolphin flips
likes potato chips
ballerina bunny
dancing round in a pink tutu
Behind the bail of hay
What's the pig say?
What's the pig say?
Down on the farm
Down on the farm
Down on Leelas farm
If you need a friend
It's the perfect place
The soft toys rule
Here at animal school
Dog named Della
She's a real fun gal
Everybody having fun
and staying cool
The horse neighs
What's the cow say
What's the cow say
Hey Hey
Down on the farm
Down on the farm
Down on Leelas farm

Farm
Rise up before the sun
To get the day's work done
Two eggs and some bacon Biscuits and gravy
Top it all off with a black cup of coffee (34)
Tie up my boots and out to the barn
Dew glistens from moonlight basking in the stars
Crickets still stirring with bullfrogs on bass
The sounds start increasing as the world wakes (40)
Outside the windmills rattle
Kneel down to milk the cattle
Give the cat a sip cause we all need a treat
The dog's tail is wagging, "don't forget about me" (37)
There's no simile or sufficient analogy
To describe the dark's departure into daily destiny
in the light's sheer magnificence
I scan the landscape inspecting fences (46)
Everyone accounted for in this blissful scene
Shadows slink and go to dream
Plow hits the dirt for all that it's worth
Sweat pours down to the seeded earth (36)
After a long day of the same things, same things (11)
Kick up my heels after a good hot meal.
Saw on the fiddle take sips from the still
Breathe it all in, it's as good as it gets
Rise again tomorrow as sure as the sun sets (42)
