I spent a few minutes lamenting all the truly questionable music I listened to in high school, and then I recalled that the Beatles have always been by my side. This one started life very conspicuously bearing the hallmarks of both Lennon and McCartney, but I let myself stretch out on the arrangements and performance. Including the beat, which I lifted from an old Blue Boy dance hit from the 90's that I just heard on an episode of "Derry Girls."
lyrics
You braved the tempest
Pushed back the seas
You earned the title
The kingdom and the keys
But every hero’s found
Their point of breaking down
And I found yours
I saw the mountain
My northern lights
I swear I almost touched
the brass rings in my sights
If there’s a chance of rain
I’ll bring a world of pain
Down on me
you taught me all your secrets
I taught you how to lie
turned the look of love into an
evil eye
and I just watch those days go by
Diamond rings
Time machines
All the gold I should’ve bought
bended knees
Apologies
Just a luxury I haven’t got
you lost your patience
I lost the game
you should have known I’d never
live up to my name
Where the four winds blow
You’ll find me going low
once again
Man of the mountain
Man of the sea
I’m still just searching
For a home to harbor me
I burn my bridges slow
Relax, enjoy the show
Once again
you taught me all your secrets
I taught you how to lie
turned the look of love into an
evil eye
and I just watch those days go by
Diamond rings
Time machines
All the gold I should’ve bought
bended knees
Apologies
Just a luxury I haven’t got
