A couple of weeks ago, I did a trio gig with Bill Stevens and Chaisaray Schenk, and it was a blast. No idea whether we'll get a chance to do it again, though I'd certainly love to. As with any sort of musical situation like this, the songwriter in me wonders what kind of material might work best. So I thought I'd write a song or two with this trio in mind. No idea whether they'll ever get used, but I'll enjoy the challenge.
I think I like this one, though (as always) I'd certainly like to do more work on the lyrics.
lyrics
When the storm clouds
Gather round
The soldiers marching
On the battleground
Don’t you hold back
Or pull a punch
Wanna hear the bones break
I wanna feel the crunch
I will promise
To do the same
Yes I will cut you
I will scream your name
But when it’s over
The hardest blow
Lay down my sword
And just let it go
Clench your fist and shout aloud
Go on and cut me to the bone
Let the blood begin to flow
Whet your sticks and stones
Say what you gotta say
Then let a breath be drawn
the sweetest dawn
After the storm has gone
