*I wrote this song this week from a prompt in another writing group I'm in. I'm paying to be in that one and I'm a little pissed about low engagement. It still fits for this group's prompt because I'm sure both my grandmothers would be proud of me embracing self-love and following my dreams :)
I’ve been climbing to the rooftop
You’ve been sitting on the stair
And I keep on slowing down
‘Cause I keep turning around
And see you’re still there
If you’re never moving forward
Don’t know why you’re even here
Guess your bio is a lie
Almost never see you try
You really don’t care
Week after week
I keep on begging for your love
Begging for your love
I always wanted a community
But lately I am beginning to see
All I ever needed was me
I don’t need you to validate me
I know I’m amazing
All I ever needed was me
So you can keep on being silent
I don’t need your guidance
You can keep that same energy
Enough of the woe is me
I might be alone but I am not lonely
Oh x7
All I ever needed was me
I’ve been full of motivation
But I think it’s pretty clear
That telling you you’re enough
And trying to lift you up
Is falling on deaf ears
So I’m going to the rooftop
I don’t care what you do
‘Cause I’m ready for action
I’m making it happen
With or without you
Week after week
I keep on begging for your love
I think I’ve had enough
Rather have everybody win with me
But I’m not waiting for eventually, no
Y’all ain’t matching my energy (nah)
And it’s really offending me (yahh)
I’ve been tryna be friendly
But you bring out the enemy
I give you my feedback
All you give me is your silence (shh)
You act like you need a PhD to say
I like that sh…
Y’all got me all in my feels (you do)
You make me not want to stay (I don’t)
‘Cause I worked all week on this track (I did)
And y’all can’t even push play (why not)
This community
Ain’t supporting me
But I’m gon’ support myself (uh huh)
Never needed anyone else I know (real talk)
