Another week with very limited time; blame it on Pink Floyd, this week. I wanted to write a potentially rousing and upbeat song for Magnolia Green this week, and I'm not sure if this gets me there. Certainly not lyrically; this is, at best, stream-of-consciousness. And I'm certain that I borrowed heavy-handedly from any one of the following: Nick Drake, the Waterboys, Van Morrison, the Waterboys borrowing from Van Morrison, and god knows who else. Still and told, moderately snappy for a rush job.
lyrics
for all the fear and folderol
of breaking parts and free-for-alls
The ringing chimes of grace intent
The great advance of all you meant the stuff and dreams of half-lives you have come to war with pen knives in your hilts
I watched you shout at shooting stars and righteous scream at passing cars and build your sunken castles in the leather booths at corner bars and every broken curse and cry was built on someone else’s brand of pain
don’t shake your shine
don’t lose your mind
find what you lost
bless what you crossed
all in again
And I’m certain that it served you well and carried round the carrousel the breaking news was broke apart the blood ran from your bleeding heart the alleyways and channel cats have set aside their brickbats and their stings
And nothing’s left to stop you now
There’s no oath left to disavow you’re free to pass like slipping ghosts
Through walls and wakes and whipping posts the arrows all left pointing north your soldiers all called forth to fight your foes
don’t shake your shine
don’t lose your mind
find what you lost
bless what you crossed
all in again
