about
In memory of Frances Ward Hale Lindsley and Dortha Florence Morgan Bentley.
I really don't much about playing/recording electric guitar tunes. And not 100% satisfied with my vocal in the mix. And as the one who gave the song prompt this week I wasn't really intending to write a song specifically about my grandmothers. With all of that, here it is, and I like it.
(and worth noting - and I'm sure Jerry was wondering about this - that it took me seventeen songs into this weekly songwriting effort to write a song with "woahs" in them ;-)
lyrics
Little boy standing at the creek side bed
there she stood holding a rock in hand
And with her hands she broke that rock in two
It didn’t matter later when he learned that she
Had found the rock already cracked in pieces
She would still be everything he wanted her to
It really is amazing
This strength for all to see
So amazing
To live what you believe
It really is amazing
The power that filled your heart
It moves inside of me
Little boy listen to piano playing
Singing about amazing grace and
Three part harmony filling out the song
And many years later in her twilight days
He sang that song and watched the way
Her face lit up cause she knew she belonged
It really is amazing
The love you gave to me
So amazing
That everyone can see
It really is amazing
This grace that brought you home
The song you sang with me
Little boy isn’t very little now
All grown up and living how
He’d think they’d want him to if they were here
Cause everyone is a part of us
Even those no longer with us
Their strength and grace are melodies he still can hear
It really is amazing
So amazing
It really is amazing
This strength and grace you lived
It’s now a part of me
