I really like how this one turned out, with the glaring exception of the lyrics. Just couldn't come up with the goods again this week. I had a couple of promising starter ideas that had NOTHING to do with each other, and in the end, I just jumbled everything together into one big hunk of basically nothing.
Musically, I started out heading in a Jayhawks-ish direction, but I think I ended up with something pretty far on the poppy side of what those guys do. I think that this one's generally a keeper, at least until I write some lyrics, but it's probably too poppy for Mag Green, so I'll just put this one in my back pocket for something ...
lyrics
Hey here’s how the joke begins
Cue up the violins and cry
You’ve lost your final alibi
Hey a penny for your thoughts
If I connect the dots to find
Your lost your latest state of mind
Angels on the North State line
Send me down a neon sign
Don’t let me close my eyes
I’m drifting in the dark
Please light me up a spark
Vapor trails across the sky
I heard you testify your schemes
But crazy’s always what it seems
But, hey, before it all goes dark
Let’s put this thing in park and see
If we can keep the finder’s fee
Angels on the North State line
Send me down a neon sign
Don’t let me close my eyes
I’m drifting in the dark
Please light me up a spark
And why always shaking your finger
Never were much of a singer
Always hanging around
You keep on playing your number
Just sinking deeper in slumber
Lost all hope you’d be found
Angels on the North State line
Send me down a neon sign
Don’t let me close my eyes
I’m drifting in the dark
Please light me up a spark
