I've switched coasts and decades.
I don't know if this song is about a guy buying and then OD'ing on dope, or if it's a song about a guy picking up a a hooker, or if it's a song about a hard working, blue collar city boy who has found the gal of his dreams, or if it's none of those. Originally, it was about a nihilist who finds true love and the chorus was inverted:

Also, thanks to my hand injury, this is about as complicated as my guitar playing is gonna be for a while, but I do a harmony vocal! Kinda. . .
I did my vocals while everyone was out of the house, so at least I didn't have to whisper sing this week.

In any event, everybody knows that the best Days of Our Lives was 1995 Days of Our Lives - when Marlena got demonically possessed.
