Knowing that Scott has professed his love for CSN (and sometimes Y) at least a couple of times this round, I thought I'd start there. I figured I'd at least pick one of Steven Still's famous tunings, track a couple of different acoustics, add some congas, arrange for 3-part harmony, and then let the influences wander from there. I was completely OK knowing that I'd probably drift into Fleet Foxes territory - I'm a big fan, and I can't remember ever really working much in that style.
What I didn't anticipate when I made that decision last Monday is that here I'd still be, a week later, fighting off the flu after coughing up a lung all week. So what I thought would be a relatively easy week on the recording front turned into a bit of a nightmare of singing a line, coughing, hitting record again, singing another line, rinse, repeat. Took far longer than it should have! I still kind of like this one, even though I'd like to hear it with one more guitar, a fresh voice, and a second draft of lyrics. Hope you enjoy it, Scott!
lyrics
your tongue soaked in gall
When you listen, gears will stall
What you build sure will fall
In the twilight
Don’t you want to be free
Of the hell of your own misery
Don’t you want to believe
There’s an answer
Trace wisps of smoke
To the flames that you have stoked
Vows that you broke
In the twilight
Don’t you want to be free
Of the hell of your own misery
Don’t you want to believe
There’s an answer
