I have NO idea what this is. Definitely started with the "Maneater" fast shuffle feel. Picked up a Guster melody, and I swear there's something nicked from Supertramp in here somewhere. The lyrics are an extremely impressionistic first draft. In any case, I can't imagine this is going to be of any use at all for this project I'm supposed to be writing for, but I still like it a little bit. Not sure what I'd use it for, though. Still out of town, so zero production; just a Voice Memo recording.
lyrics
halfway from here to holy ground
knee-deep in swamp again
no more rescue to be found
we’ve tried the picket fence before
easy does nothing good
we’ve picked the locks of hidden doors
if there’s a rose grown
with less than sharper thorns
never made much sense to me
and when that note’s blown
a blast of heaven’s horns
we’ll see what’s left for us to see
it’s a hot spring night on a motorbike
it’s the poison that you need
it’s the last flashpoint of a hunger strike
it’s the beat before you bleed
turn your face towards me
hear the mourning dove
you know it’s a barbed wire kind of love
blank page, we stare until we’re blue
top speed in muscle cars
we bit off more than we can chew
but I’ll throw my chips into the pot
there’s meat left on the bone
so hear me fire my warning shot
if there’s a rose grown
with less than sharper thorns
never made much sense to me
and when that note’s blown
a blast of heaven’s horns
we’ll see what’s left for us to see
it’s a hot spring night on a motorbike
it’s the poison that you need
it’s the last flashpoint of a hunger strike
it’s the beat before you bleed
turn your face towards me
hear the mourning dove
you know it’s a barbed wire kind of love
