Well, being knee-deep in Stones tunes this week, and in position of a new-to-me Gibson LG-1, I figured I'd try to write an honest-to-goodness blues song this week, something I almost never have done. But, like the Stones, my blues purity gave way quickly to a host of other influences, and I suppose this is more akin to the latter-day Dylan kind of thing: a little blues, a little folk, a little country, a little Tin Pan Alley. Some fairly hokey lines in here, and it's a pretty slight thing, all around, but I might just come back to this one ...
lyrics
Sit real quiet
Hear those sounds
The highway river flowing
Some folks come
Some folks leave
Don’t care where they’re going
It’s getting late, all good sleepers gon’ dream
anywhere that prayers are spoken
But me I’ll toss and turn and wait for the dawn
bothered bent and broken
Man looks back
Path seems straight
What’s ahead’s a mystery
Taillights fade
Nobody’s home
This tale’s already history
Three steps forward
Four steps back
What’s left could buy a subway token
But me I’ll blow that candle out and wait for the sun
bothered bent and broken
No shadows do I leave
On this cold wooden floor
Already halfway gone
Sing me a song and I’ll
Raise up a glass
Let’s just melt into the dawn
Sit real quiet
Hear those sounds
The highway river flowing
Some folks come
Some folks leave
bothered bent and broken
