Lyrically, this is a mess, but the idea came from thinking about how fragmented we are these days, and how that corresponds to our physical reality. Which put me in mind of the long-forgotten scenario in which large numbers of folks with completely disparate experiences and thoughts used to frequently occupy the same space. And the first image that came to my mind was riding an NYC subway car, with very different people looking out the same window, thinking very different things.
lyrics
She knew she’d sleep tonight
Without a tablet
If she could check it one more time
There’s nothing else they need
they’ve got the number
should penance ever fit the crime
Bridges and tunnels
the edge of the world
Burning Brooklyn Bridge by night
dreaming of the waves of love
Captured by the signal lights
Blinking like the stars above
He swore they’d move this train
So much faster
If only they could see his face
Or knew what he had packed
so lean and careful in his
Worn-out old attache case
Bridges and tunnels
the edge of the world
Got to understand, this is
Something different
A party for the end of days
How could you believe you could
Catch us in Jersey
We’ll swear we’re only stowaways
Bridges and tunnels
the edge of the world
Burning Brooklyn Bridge by night
dreaming of the waves of love
Captured by the signal lights
Blinking like the stars above
