Well, this one's a bit odd! I started out with a couple of vaguely Billie Eilish-esque ideas: a super-sparse beat combined with multi-tracked, pitch-processed vocal stacks (reminiscent of St. Vincent), with more romantic, Tori Amos-ish piano arpeggios. And then it branched out from there. Not sure this one really lands, for me, but it was fun to get a little more esoteric this week, and I actually enjoy some of the lyrics.
lyrics
Please pour the rum
I’ve lost the nerve
The jasmine still in bloom
I lose your scent
typewriter’s click
No longer fills the room
But I still believe in you
long past the hours of black and blue
in the night’s broken passion
And the rushing of your blood
is come and gone
I’m still your gun
geraniums
have wilted now
It’s all I had to lose
all shares in oil
gone south again
We pay the boatman’s dues
We rode the winds
We reap the spoils
Your skin so dull and cool
But none of this
Will seem so real
The liquor fogs and pools
But I still believe in you
long past the hours of black and blue
in the night’s broken passion
And the rushing of your blood
is come and gone
I’m still your gun
The dance has run
The tango stilled
Your eyes are still aflame
These markers blurred
All worthless now
A younger marksman’s game
