This might be my favorite track, musically, of all of these potential musical blueprints for this upcoming trio project. Lyrically, it doesn't have much to offer, and I would certainly revisit that. But I like the overall vibe and tone of what's going on here.
lyrics
Waking up to find you’re not the
Center of the world
Shaken up, you’re burning all the
The flags you left unfurled
Stuck inside the holding pen where
All good soldiers wait
Sharpening your swords but there’s no
Evil left to hate
Brickbat dreams of principals you
Never knew you had
Once upon a time I thought your
price was ironclad
But beat-down days will always have their
Ways to change your chart
Sometimes you’re just one bad night from
selling out your heart
Nothing is so pure
Everything is frayed
Tattered at the edges
Where we used to sing and play
Someday we’ll get right
And wear that laurel wreath
For now it’s by the skin of my teeth
So turn and make your stand wherever
You got left behind
Everybody builds their god from
Anything they find
And when you knock down castle walls
Of all those lesser men
Make sure you don’t leave enough
For me to start again
Nothing is so pure
Everything is frayed
Tattered at the edges
Where we used to sing and play
Someday we’ll get right
And wear that laurel wreath
For now it’s by the skin of my teeth
