I have been ITCHING to use my new Surfy Bear spring-reverb unit that I won in California at the surf music convention so this was the challenge for it!!! When I am in Los Angeles, I frequently visit the beach. Especially Venice to people watch. There are always so many junkies there. I often ponder on how they wound up there in their situation. This song is a guess on the story of one of those Venice junkies. I loved this challenge because it's like a multiple-personality disorder so my lyrics fit the assignment along with the music. The character moves from the country to the chaotic junkie beach. Country twang to psycho-surf!!
lyrics
Well it's time to leave the country for awhile
I'm headed to California, to change my style
No more wretched days sweating in the fields
I'm going where the waves will make me healed
Soaking up that summer sun
My head is pounding like a tommy gun
Macks and junkies out on the beach
I'm feeling burned and I'm out of reach
Well I'm headed back to the country for awhile
I've got to get back where life is not hostile
Where the fields are so green and the sky is blue
But I'm so damaged I can't seem to get through
I'm so jaded and I'm slurring speech
A victim of the California beach
My friends say that I'm a different man
Just a junkie in a dirty trash can, OH NO!
