This week, filmmaker Jack Pennington asked me if he could film a mini-doc on the making of an MM3AM tune, and he requested that I do a full-production number, so I've included two versions of this song - a full arrangement, and an EP-and-vocal mix.
The song started as a fairly straightforward soul ballad that I intended for Mediocre Bad Guys. It picked up tempo a little as we went and definitely strayed from ballad territory. Not sure whether it's a little too R&B for MBG, but I'll throw it in the hat. I didn't really start working on this much at all until cameras were running, so I'm not terribly thrilled with the lyrics either, but I think I could work on a second draft.
lyrics
Looking for a change of season
Sunshine is gonna do us good
This cold, cold rain ain't no reason
To keep us from the joy we should be sharing now
Change of season
Open up those windows wide
We need a change of season inside
Don't go stop believing in me
Though sometimes I forget what it means
To have and hold the gifts you give
Don't let me die where I live
Cause there ain't no reason
For this late-night teasing
Any blind fool sees it's no good
Can't you see my love can't wait anymore?
Looking for a change of season
Sunshine is gonna do us good
This cold, cold rain ain't no reason
To keep us from the joy we should be sharing now
Change of season
Open up those windows wide
We need a change of season inside
Where'd your fire and lightning go?
'Dya lose 'em in the undertow/driving snow?
You're wondering where the good times have gone
But there's still hours before the dawn
Cause there ain't no reason
For this late-night teasing
Any blind fool sees it's no good
Can't you see my love can't wait anymore?
Looking for a change of season
Sunshine is gonna do us good
This cold, cold rain ain't no reason
To keep us from the joy we should be sharing now
Change of season
Open up those windows wide
We need a change of season inside
