"Write a song about an important object in your life." Had no idea what I was going to do with this prompt, until I found myself in Raleigh for an unplanned trip. Mom had gone into the hospital and my Dad and brother and I were taking shifts. Was at their house taking a quick break, sitting in the living room, looked to my right and saw my Dad's guitar. Then I knew exactly what to write about.

(Mom's still in the hospital but doing much better. Hoping to come home soon.)

Sits in his living room
By his chair

Six string classical
Yamaha G-231
Cedar top, mahogany sides
He can play it anytime

I remember
All the lullabies
But a different kind
Is what was on his mind

Light my Fire
And the House of the Rising sun
Put my brother and me to bed
Chill version instead

My dad’s guitar
Is what I’m playing now
So the songs he brings
Can be the ones I sing
