It's been a while, huh?

This is the first song I've written since last time I was here and the first time I've opened my mouth to sing in almost as long (well, not quite - I did do a fb live show a couple months or so back). With the new child, I have to whisper sing anyway, but out of practice is half my troubles. I had a pretty decent bicycle wreck (last week? week before?) and along with swelling up my leg and giving it the finest bruise I have ever seen, I hurt the thumb of my fretting hand pretty good, so it was not happy about having to play instruments.
And then the gear issues started. . .
I can't believe I got this thing in in time - photo finish for sure. If I can't get the latency issues worked out, I'm not gonna make it far this round.

As to the song:
I tend to think of a time period when I write songs. Generally, that time period is pretty vague, but I imagine it's somewhere between the age of Huck Finn and the early 1940's. Or something. As to the place, I imagine it's the weird old South that you find in any number of old folk tales - think about the Jack Tales and you're kinda sorta near(ish) it.
In any event, what it is not is 1970's Los Angles, which is what this is. I guess.
