I'm going to love this round! It was great this week to have enough time to write a few treatments, pick the best, really work on lyrics, and still know that there's time next week to take it to another level. I'm pretty happy with this little Jayhawks/Ryan Adams/Petty-ish ditty. The lyrics are a little cliched and undercooked, but that's what I hope to concentrate on next week.
I'm also aware that somehow, some way, I'm ripping off Lee Terry here. I can't pick out anything specific, though maybe he can. If so, I'll tweak it next week. Otherwise, it definitely has an LT vibe to it. But hey, you hang around a master, you're going to end up trying to steal from him, right?
lyrics
all those voices around you
keep shouting your name
but there's nothing left of you now
they pick through yr bones and wonder,
hey, was it worth it, anyhow?
when you told me you walked
on the southside now
all flushed with a wink in your eyes
I could tell that there wouldn't be much time
left standing for goodbyes
oh, how could you lose all your
faith in yourself to get by?
all the grace that you lost
all the bloodshed that mercy could buy
everybody knows you're missing
everybody knows you're gone
everybody knows you're lost, girl
from the dusk 'til the dawn
well, it's all fun and games when you're
playing a part
but you just don't know how to stop
you shot out like a rocket
but you're lost now,
spinning like a top
but I'll come and get you and
keep you tonight
just leave me the number this time
and I'll just keep on dreaming that you'll
know when the wages fit the crime
oh, how could you lose all your
faith in yourself to get by?
all the grace that you lost
all the bloodshed that mercy could buy
everybody knows you're missing
everybody knows you're gone
everybody knows you're lost, girl
from the dusk 'til the dawn
everybody knows you're missing
everybody knows you're gone
everybody knows you're lost, girl
from the dusk 'til the dawn
