Well, I wanted to do something spectacular this week, and I had the time, but this just isn't that, I'm afraid. Kinda liking the melodies and general vibe of this Big Star/Jayhawks/Petty kind of vibe, but the lyrics never congealed. If the melody sticks with me, I may give the lyrics another shot sometime down the road.
lyrics
Don’t think nobody knows
Cause I saw it all
In the blues of your eyes
Dulling your days’ shadows
You’ve built you a wall
But the memories won’t die
Out on the ocean so far from the shore
weathers the pull of the tides
Made it as far as the border tonight
Only to chase a mirage
It’s the wish on a shooting star
The chord on a cheap pawn shop guitar
The instant you know just who you are
And what you’ve done
Cause I sold it all downstream
Borrowed a mask from a snake oil dream
Watched it all fade like steam
In the eye of the sun
Built me an armory
Plated with steel
All my shame I can stow
But one bitter memory
The devil’s own
for my red blood to flow
Out on the ocean so far from the shore
weathers the pull of the tides
Made it as far as the border tonight
Only to chase a mirage
It’s the wish on a shooting star
The chord on a cheap pawn shop guitar
The instant you know just who you are
And what you’ve done
Cause I sold it all downstream
Borrowed a mask from a snake oil dream
Watched it all fade like steam
In the eye of the sun
