This is a song I wrote many rounds back for an MM3AM assignment (I think it was actually my own assignment, and it was to write a song that features or could feature a horn section). We've been doing this one with Gasket Hawkins, but it needed a strong lyric tweak; most specifically, a whole new second verse. What you hear, here, is a rough mix, with a scratch vocal, of what we've been working on for the new Gasket Hawkins recording sessions - that's the magnificent rhythm section of Corky McClellan and Jim Moody (just wait 'til you hear the High Point Horns on it!). I've hesitated to use these tracks for this round of MM3AM songs, but it's honestly easier to just use the tracks with a scratch vocal than to record a new version, and for these songs, lyrical tweaks are what I'm going for.
lyrics
stand down, guns drawn
can't get your heat on
defenses exploded
eyes locked and loaded
ain't no walls between us
closer everyday
so come on, gasoline us
ain't no time to play
swing, hit, the fire's been lit
smoke going up and I
ain't goin' quit it now
any minute now you're gonna realize
I gonna burn this thing to the ground
hard luck, the match been struck
you never saw it coming
and your feet got stuck
fire's been lit and you can't go back
go on and gimme everything that you got
you know, I know
this ain't no free show
Mouth off, spit fire
Cut with your own wire
Thought you’d light a cocktail
Turn and walk away
Ain’t got time for blackmail
Show me how you pray
swing, hit, the fire's been lit
smoke going up and I
ain't goin' quit it now
any minute now you're gonna realize
I gonna burn this thing to the ground
hard luck, the match been struck
you never saw it coming
and your feet got stuck
fire's been lit and you can't go back
go on and gimme everything that you got
