about

Last summer, I wrote a song called "Catch My Breath" about a big maple tree in our front yard. The tree was basically engulfed by ivy. The song was very haunting, accepting the tree was caught up in losing battle to the ivy.

A friend suggested we soak the biggest roots in makeshift containers full of bleach. After refilling them every few days for several months, the ivy was killed; all the way to the top. It worked for us, pass it on if you know someone that needs to save a tree this way.

Last week, I tuned an early 20th century upright. It had a fascinating tone and inspired brief tinkering I recorded on my iPhone via the voice memo. The piano part was from that under-a-minute stream of consciousness. I'll eventually get another midi controller for the house, too.

lyrics

Slowly I can breathe
Feel my heart beat
Got some years in me
Roots run deep

Soaking in the bleach
Weeks go by, slow relief
Sun light breaking in
Breeze against my skin

Finally, I can see
Gripped too much for me
Withered falling leaves
Piling confetti
I'm ready

Soaking in the bleach
Weeks go by, slow relief
Sun light breaking in
Breeze against my skin
