lyrics

“Twenty-Foot Line”

Verse 1:
My neighbor’s got a dog that’s tethered night and day
Tried to call the law but the deputy and he are homies
Half the time he’s wound around the ground wire
Can’t get a drink of water, barks bass in a solo choir

Chorus 1:
Said that it’s there to scare off potential perpetrators
Fiancé’s home alone all day watching caterpillars graze
Every once in a while she’ll get out of bed long enough to set him free
To the twenty-foot line instead of the 1.3’

Verse 2:
Well before he got this one and another new fiancé
He had another dog in a 6’x6’ that barked, so lonely
One day he set her free and she came straight me so I bought her and I
Gave her to a farm halfway to the beach

Chorus 2:
That dog wouldn’t hurt a flea according to the deputy
At least according to his homie always away
But that fiancé can barely get him unwound when she’s trying to set him free
To the twenty-foot line instead of the 1.3’

Bridge:
One day his daddy came by to ask about a missing horse
So I walked the fence line immediately, of course
But the very next day a deputy came to ask about pretense
Found out later that poor horse died stuck in their own fence

Chorus 3:
If I thought the law was walking tall better believe I’d dish some flack
But this ain’t the city limits and good ol’ boys got each others' backs
If the last chapter of this saga were left up to me
I’d tie them to a twenty-foot line or better yet, a 1.3’
