I was fairly happy with this, musically, though I tweaked the melody and phrasing of the chorus a bit. Completely rewrote all the verses - again, I think I wrote about ten verses, in all. Never really got on top of it, though, I'm afraid. I felt like the music called for something universal and accessible, and I like the main trope, but I never really connected with it, emotionally, and I never did come up with anything particularly clever or authentic. Still, it does flow and it does resonate with a fairly honest concept. I also played around a bit with the string line, though that's not very important to me, at this stage.
lyrics
Why I want you
Don't seem fair
We fit together like a
Circle and a square
I never thought that we’d be
Built to last
Come change of season
we're a thing of the past
we got no business being lovers
but when you touch me I go
out of my mind
yeah I give up
I’m giving up on giving up
I’m tired of the pain
when we part
yeah I give up
I’m giving up on giving up
I’m taking it back
to the start
What'dya see there
Made you stay?
Those same old heartbreaks
made me wanna run away
we’ve been fighting
far too long
I've forgotten
how to tell you I was wrong
we got no business being lovers
but when you touch me I go
out of my mind
yeah I give up
I’m giving up on giving up
I’m tired of the pain
when we part
yeah I give up
I’m giving up on giving up
I’m taking it back
to the start
