For this round, I'm focusing on trying to write some more muscular tracks for Magnolia Green. Something that's still roots-rock-oriented, but slightly more arena-friendly. Good live tracks.
This one was a severe rush job - it's been a busy week, and I mostly did this today; about 3 hours, soup-to-nuts. The lyrics are definitely going to need to go back for a second draft. That said, this one definitely got in the ballpark of where I wanted to be.
lyrics
I don’t want to say it’s a judge and a jury
I don’t want to say it’s a lock
Left with something sorry, more sound than the fury
A portrait in an outline of chalk
A portrait in an outline of chalk
Good as gone
Said the rook to the pawn
I believe come the dawn I’ll be gone
State of war
Better safe than adored
She said I’m not afraid anymore
I’m not afraid anymore
Someone shouted out “what’s so hard in the leaving?
you’re sleeping in a house burning down”
But when you know the flames can reach you
as high as the stars
who cares if you burn or you drown
Who cares if you burn or you drown
Good as gone
Said the rook to the pawn
I believe come the dawn I’ll be gone
State of war
Better safe than adored
She said I’m not afraid anymore
I’m not afraid anymore
I know you take me for a fool
But I wish you’d take me for a ride
‘Cause I can see daylight up ahead
And you’re gonna want to be on my side
Good as gone
Said the rook to the pawn
I believe come the dawn I’ll be gone
State of war
Better safe than adored
She said I’m not afraid anymore
I’m not afraid anymore
