This tune didn't pan out like I wanted it to at all. The music is derivative and the lyric isn't much better. The lyric is all over the place rhythmically, and it was shoehorned into a progression with no regard for consistency in order to get something on tape before time ran out. Recording is a rushed one take job with three mics, two on guitar and one on vocal...ended up being phasey (big shocker). Oh well. Least I get to stay in the round.
lyrics
Awful cold for June
Wind has picked up too
Been making runs for hours
Clothes are all soaked through
Left out of Dover
White cliffs to the breach
Air cav laid some fire
Now we landing on the beach
Wanted to be a sailor
Wanted to know that I'm alive
Fateful morning in '44
Called the Halcyon Plus Five
Long way from Carolina
Miss the sweet smell of home
Now my nose is burning
With salt, oil, and brimstone
Made another run
Can barely stand the weight
Kicking off lost souls
Just to raise up the tail gate
Wanted to be a sailor
Wanted to know that I'm alive
Fateful morning in '44
Called the Halcyon Plus Five
Always the look of shock
But empty round the eyes
Never seen a bullet
Not come as a surprise
This ain't Jehricho
And only some of us are Jews
And these damn sure ain't trumpets
Rainin' down hell upon you
Wanted to be a sailor
Wanted to know that I'm alive
Fateful morning in '44
Called the Halcyon Plus Five
