Well, not only will I admit that this week's track for me was a little more about futzing around in the studio than it was about real songwriting work. In fact, I put this one together completely backwards, starting with a Queens of the Stone Age beat, then a Jane's Addiction bass line, then Johnny Marr guitars, Charlatans organ, etc. … and only then did I actually write a song. And that was all a bit last-minute. Still, this was a lot of fun and still gives me an adrenaline thrill, even with the ham-fisted attempt to write in a time signature that doesn't include a "4" on top ...
lyrics
never said it wasn't freezing
stop the hours
never said she gave a good creation
when I was looking for a reason
never had a chance to show frustration
why were you playing?
your sentimental side shows no mercy
where you think you're going?
just the cruelty of good intentions
and just in time for the rain
comes a broken ray of gold
and just in time for the sun
she brings the winter's cold
like a cannon needs the powder
she's after-hours
and she don't even seem to know
and I am helplessly at arms-length
she maps trajectories of heartache
what were you saying?
you strung the message out again
why were you starting?
you play the game of hesitation
and just in time for the rain
comes a broken ray of gold
and just in time for the sun
she brings the winter's cold
