This song is based on Operation Bodyguard, the elaborate plan by the Allies during WWII to trick the Nazis into having no idea where and when the Allied D-day invasion would occur. A lot of this was possible because they had managed to break the Nazis' complex cipher of the Enigma Machine, unbeknownst to Germany, so the Allies knew which plans were working. There were many sub-operations as a part of the plan. Scripted radio transmissions were used to simulate troops amassing in Egypt. Double Agents were used to reinforce false information, the most famous was code named Garbo. Lone planes were flown to draw attention to Gibraltar away from the real troops. An actor gave a speech as a General to make them think he was in Africa. And even burlap sacks shaped like men were parachuted down as a final diversion. My description barely scratches the surface of this fascinating piece of history, and probably gets details wrong, so I'd recommend reading about it yourself sometime. The largest "Hey, look over there" plan in history.
My chords are :
A GAG as in a trick
GAB for the use of radio transmissions and spies
GAG for the secrecy of the plan
EGAD A CAD the Allies reaction to Hitler
lyrics
GAB GAG
False transmissions floating through the air
Vapor armies conjured but not there
Phantom Legions by the pyramids
ghostly Yankees near Gibraltar hid
A GAG
Burlap men are falling from the sky
On either side. To draw the eye
E
Hey you, with the bad art
G
Look over there
A
There's nothing to see here
D
Just move along
A C
Did you hear we're heading for Olso?
A D
It's just a normal day in Normandy (whistle nonchalantly )
There's chatter on the radio
The grapevine buzzes with the words of Garbo
And so, Heil Ho, Heil Ho, it’s off you go
Chasing all our manufactured ghosts
Burlap men are falling from the sky
On either side. To draw the eye
Hey you...
