Well, I've decided to get back into something that's a little closer to my wheelhouse, this round - power pop. Kind of excited about it, actually, after all my weird experiments lately, and I'm pretty happy with this first draft. My original goal was to keep things pretty simple, but then I picked up the Rickenbacker and starting thinking about Mitch Easter and the way he has always written creative guitar compositions using up-the-neck chord voicings and inversions and arpeggios, and I thought I would work on some ideas in that vein and see if I could learn anything.
Lyrics are absolute throwaway scratch words.
lyrics
the circuit closes no more
there’s a break in the arc
where there should be a spark
Resistance lost in the gate
no more charge in the flow
from a mute radio
We’ll check the manual
And search the archives
The base schematics for control
The valves start humming
The amplifier burning cold
There’s a blaze
There’s a rush
There’s a path through the brush
By the light of a moon you can’t see
could be ash
could be dust
could be all that you can trust
could be holding the skeleton key
It must have been a big scene
All those years long ago
Fly so high, vertigo
Wish I could still feel so green
when the flame lost its flick
When the flush feels the sick
We’ll check the manual
And search the archives
The base schematics for control
The valves start humming
The amplifier burning cold
There’s a blaze
There’s a rush
There’s a path through the brush
By the light of a moon you can’t see
could be ash
could be dust
could be all that you can trust
could be holding the skeleton key
