I've had the sad privilege of playing more than a couple funerals in the past few months. Today's service included some old-school Southern Gospel. I just jotted down some phrases between "sound check" & the service. The lyrics were actually written on the back of my "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" lyric sheet. Technically a co-write, of course. So sue me. Or put me on probation.
lyrics
I never knew you
And I guess I never will
But just to be here
I could say I'm positively thrilled
Friends & relations
I can tell they sense you're with them still
No more laughter
No more tears
We'll take the burden as you start to disappear
-----
No more sunshine
No more night
We stay grounded, you begin to take flight
You begin to take flight
I never knew you
But I know the ones you raised
A room for crying
I can tell that they're afraid
Did they say their goodbyes
Before you went away
No more laughter
No more tears
We'll take the burden as you start to disappear
-----
No more sunshine
No more night
We stay grounded, you begin to take flight
You begin to take flight
You'll fly away, oh Glory
You'll fly away
When you die, Hallelujah, by & by
You'll fly away
No more laughter
No more tears
We'll take the burden as you start to disappear
-----
No more sunshine
No more night
We stay grounded, you begin to take flight
You begin to take flight
You begin to take flight
