OK, so i was driving home a few nights ago and heard the song "Storm Warning" by The Volcanoes (1969) and was intrigued by the sound – they referred to it as Philly Soul, a bit different from Motown. So, I decided to try that with this tune.
I really wanted to retain the bouncy energy of the original, because that captured the energy of my daughter, the subject of the song.
I rewrote about half of the lyrics to have a more cohesive rhyme scheme throughout, and to improve the overall feel as well.
lyrics
Eyes like the sun and hair in the wind
Linnea bursts in the room
She’s already halfway before you begin
a walking talking sonic boom
a firecracker from the womb
a dandelion in full bloom
creating a picture with words or with ink
she’s a wizard of imagery
Blowing my mind with the thoughts that she thinks
she's a song in a different key
a feminine facsimile
I love her unconditionally
Lovely Linnea you know you’ve got me by the heart
pulling the strings and things you got me torn apart
like a masters work of art
my comic counterpart
you’re my little sweetheart
A child of the light and girl of the earth
she was born to go out and play
she's been her own girl since the day of her birth
she can usually get her way
Like an improvised ballet
She’s the future born today
Lovely Linnea you know you’ve got me by the heart
pulling the strings and things you got me torn apart
like a masters work of art
my comic counterpart
you’re my little sweetheart
