I am reading a book where the main character keeps missing chances with a girl, mainly because he is afraid his advances would be unwelcome. I imagined a sad tale of a boy who lives his life wondering if he missed his one chance at love and happiness because he was too scared...

Probably some of my favorite lines I have ever written:

he was out of his depth, and likely to drown
and she was the weight, pulling him down

she glowed like the sun, making him sweat
her face burned his heart, he will never forget
he thrashed and he struggled against cupid's net

he asked about her, all over town
about her fancies and friends around
