I thought the phrase kicking the stars down the stairs sounded neat. I'm using it to describe self defeating behavior, but honestly it could mean just about anything.
I thought of the melody early in the week, and filled out the lyrics today. The bridge might be better as an instrumental break. Oh well.
lyrics
He's afraid to talk to you
'cause you don't look the way he does
He can't see that he's a fool
With nothing new to say
Be not afraid
It's just the unknown
Be not afraid
Your mind might grow
But he said
No no you must do what I want
Anything else wouldn't be fair
And he'll burn down his own house if he won't stop kicking the stars down the stairs
He's been hiding in his room
The glow of blue light on his brow
His safety is his tomb
Just keep those people out
Be not afraid
This is nothing new
Be not afraid
Next time it could be you
But he said
No no you must listen to me
Those boats are a serpent's lair
And he'll burn down his own house if he won't stop kicking the stars down the stairs
It won't come easy
At first, but then
You'll feel the tide lift
You up
Be not afraid
It's not worth your soul
Be not afraid
You could be whole
And we said
No no we won't turn them away
There’s plenty here to share
We won't burn our own house
Let's all stop kicking the stars down the stairs.
