One of my favorite bands when I was learning to play guitar was Black Sabbath. And who am I kidding--I still dig 'em! At some point every Sabbath fan realizes that half the time Ozzy is just singing along with the guitar riff for any particular song. And that's exactly what I did this week as well.
I threw a capo on and just started strumming that main riff on my porch this morning. I like to knock out my demos fast and not make too big a deal out of it. Vocals are usually first take unless I mess up a word or something. I recorded these vocals tonight in the back seat of my wife's Hyundai, and my dog was very perplexed.
And yeah, "Leave Or Stay" is also the title of a song by The Cars. Well, it's pretty obscure, and not many people know it. I guess now they do.
lyrics
I don’t know what you want to do
Leave or stay the choice is up to you
We’ve said it all there’s nothing left to say
If I get a vote I’m hoping that you’ll stay
I’m not gonna sit by the phone
I’m just gonna leave well enough alone
We lost our way we drifted out to sea
We’re past the point of no return for me
So grab your key and gather up your stuff
Cause I can tell when you have had enough
I’m not gonna sit by the phone
I’m just gonna leave well enough alone
And I’ll tell you this no one will miss you more than I will
If you’re moving on I’ll try to stay strong if you’ve had your fill
We’re not the first we will not be the last
You cannot change the screw ups of your past
So if you leave I’ll show you to the door
Or stay a while and make me smile some more
I’m not gonna sit by the phone
I’m just gonna leave well enough alone
I’m not gonna sit by the phone
I’m just gonna leave well enough alone
