about

On a better week, I would've enjoyed following Clay's lead and recorded 2 or 3 or, heck, a whole album's worth of 60's-punk nuggets. As it is, I was pressed for time again (as we all are!).

One of my favorite aspects of 60's/psyche/garage is that sneering, proto-punk anger, usually directed at a wandering girl (and often just this side of misogyny). If these guys were in a later generation, they might be in bands with names like Tormentor or Staind or Tormented Stain, but as it were, they were paired with the aesthetics of the time, which involved tones that we now might consider quaint and shrill, and the malevolence seems a whole hell of a lot more fun.

lyrics

Once upon a time
I still believed in what you said
But now that I can see
I think I oughta check my head
Cause you've been running round
With every hotshot in this town
But I believe the end is nigh
your fate is coming down

Some girls, they do
Some girls, they don't
Some girls, they'll never let you know

You're a lying little liar, girl
Don't you mess with me
You know you've got a stone
Right where your heart should be
And if I ever hear about
The wicked things you do
I'm coming for you, girl,
And that's the end of you
