I think I have written this song several times before, but I think this might be my favorite version of it. As always, I'd like to do several more lyrical drafts on this, but musically, I think it's close to where I want it to be.
lyrics
I am sending you a message
I have sealed the envelope
and I expect that you’ll respond
In kind
For it’s a cloudy day in Winston
and they’re calling for a storm
and I could use a little peace
Of mind
And there’s a fire on the wind
And there’s smoke in the south
And there’s a man in a black hat
With a black heart and a
Black tongue in his mouth
My Dahlia
Where have you gone
the stream’s gone dry
good patience
As long as it takes
til all of the days gone by
Did you cut your hair for summer
have you thought about the coast
it’s a seller’s market now
I hear
There’s a photo, scratched and faded
in a box in my bedroom
You were singing me a tune
I couldn’t hear
But I can hear it tonight
and it won’t leave me alone
And if you heard it would you still know
how the song goes
did you leave those days behind
My Dahlia
Where have you gone
the stream’s gone dry
good patience
As long as it takes
til all of the days gone by
They’re sailing ships across the harbor tonight
don’t know where anybody goes
Long time ago I heard the sound of the spheres
now it’s just broken radios
My Dahlia
Where have you gone
the stream’s gone dry
good patience
As long as it takes
til all of the days gone by
