This is based on the amazing children’s book Gus and Me, written by Keith Richards and illustrated by his granddaughter. I have read it many many times to my crew, it’s an amazing story for all ages.
lyrics
On days I know he’s coming, I’m smiling ear to ear
Whatever else is happening, it all just disappears
Walking round the neighborhood with my oldest bestest mate
“Sorry Emma, all the chores can wait”
His place was full of instruments and always smelled like cake
A leader and a solider, this gentleman could bake
And pound on that piano, and scrape a mean guitar
Some times we’d take a short walk, others far
The day we walked to London, from seven sisters lane
Aday that changed my life and I would never be the same
Inside it was a beehive, with instrumentals and sound
Soaked it in, then drank the whole place down
They tested the guitar strings, and pounded out a beat
Saxophones and violins, that magical retreat
I fell in love with instruments, and wished up a star
One day I’ll get my own guitar
At first I couldn’t reach it, he told me I should wait
And when the time is right my boy, you need not hesitate
One day I reached to grab it, but I didn’t need to say
He handed it straight over for me to play
My first guitar, my first guitar
I think about it rolling round, wherever we are
My first guitar, before I hit that stage
My first guitar, and my best mate (Gus)
