about

Here’s one for Albus’ challenge – One Voice, One Instrument. I hope this song will have personal meaning for each listener but for me, this song is about my children wanting to grow up and move away. This past week, my beautiful teenage son said that he wants to move out when he’s 19. I really did get mad for a bit. I chose to bite my tongue but only minutes later I decided I didn’t want to stew about it all day so I just had to ask him why he would want to move out. I realized how ridiculous I was when he told me he just wanted to go live his life. Ok, I get it…I know there’s so much more yet to enjoy but it’s still kind of sad for me. The lyric specifies ‘girl’ for rhyming purposes but is truly meaning all my children.

I promise I recorded this one take. Just before the second half of the second verse, you can hear when my youngest daughter came in the room to tell me goodnight and I quickly ask her to ‘wait’ with me until I was done. Then at the end of the song, she hits the very last note. Symbolic…isn’t it?

lyrics

On And On

I’m just an ordinary man
In an ordinary world
Then what came into my life
An extraordinary girl

Now you know it makes me smile
To think of you from time to time
And I’ll wish that I just could have been
With you more minutes than I could find

My love for you goes on
On and on and on and on

So you’ll have to move away
I guess I thought you’d always stay
I didn’t think a love so grand
Would be the rock that turns to sand

Please know that if you ever need
A place to go, I hope you’ll see
That the path back home is always there
No matter what may be

My love for you goes on
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on

How long is long enough
For happiness to be?
I’d like to find that stopwatch
And throw it in the sea

My love for you goes on
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
On and on and on and on
