I liked the idea about communion with Jerry, then Doug took it and it felt that he was talking about loneliness. I thought that was a neat combination, so I thought about the verses being about loneliness, then the chorus would be about community and how it heals loneliness, and that was my contribution. I pretty much made a verse/pre chorus/chorus.
lyrics
Verse
Live long enough and you begin to know
what it means to be alone
go too long without touch
from another becomes too much
pre chorus
want to know where you go
out on a ledge
losing you someone who
lived on the edge
chorus
we weren't made to be alone
don't have to make it on our own
through touch we find out
what it means to be human
alone together in communion
verse
loneliness builds and you think you forget
the ability you have to connect
alone in a house on a neighborhood street
full of lonely people to meet
pre chorus
want to know where you go
out on a ledge
losing you someone who
lived on the edge
chorus
we weren't made to be alone
don't have to make it on our own
through touch we find out
what it means to be human
alone together in communion
